Newly introjected fictive culture is coming from a source where you’re not a good person and now one of the other members in the system hates your guts and when you said there wasn’t anything anyone could do about the fact you’re here, they tell you that you could kill yourself 😔💔

W I N T E R
YOUR BREATH HITCHED AGAINST THE COLD AIR OF THE NIGHT, this cold of a day in London was not unusual, not welcomed, nor un-welcomed. You sort of loved the cold days, even if it rained so much that it was almost impossible to leave the house. It brings a sense of home to you and your roommate.
The same roommate who tried to join one of those sororities. But then chickened out last minute ‘Those girls are so fucking intimidating... I dunno how anyone does it!’ You laugh as you remember the day she came back to the dorm in shambles, only slightly tipsy. She really was the party type - but you had obligated to stay back at the dorm and watch Netflix or something, she found you coddled watching and reading. It wasn’t an unusual state for you at all, and you partied sometimes, Katie had mocked you previously, for acting as if you’re ‘Not like other girls.’ But you had to disagree, she was being ridiculous.
But that’s not where the story starts, ironically; the story starts at one of those terrible parties. Katie had dressed you in a nice pair of high waisted jeans and a tank top. You felt like you were wearing a little too less, which wasn’t a bad thing at all. You were just a little shy, so you slipped a jacket on top. In your defence: ‘Kate! It’s freezing outside!’
You were at a party where everyone knew you as the smartest kid in possibly the grade - you weren’t bullied or anything, but you weren’t popular either. Everyone knew you, and you knew them. You weren’t friends with them, but you weren’t not friends with them - you were the middle ground; the mediocre.
But in the whole time you were at this party, you managed to see the one person you didn’t like at all, and who didn’t like you.
Tom Holland was a stuck-up brat who didn’t know any better than to slack off in class, drink until so drunk he could barely speak properly, make comments about people that were anything but nice, and to make things even better, cheated on his girlfriend, and still, no matter how much he annoyed you, how much he despised you, how much the two of you tried to avoid each other... the two of you always managed to get in each other’s way.
You didn’t even knew how Tom Holland managed to slither his way into your life. But he did, and although the two of you disliked each other (although, it’s not a strong enough word), he always needed. your. help.
You saw it coming when he walked up to you at that stupid party, “What do you want, Thomas?” You questioned, your arms crossed over your jacket like they had been the whole night, a red solo cup sat in your hand.
“I need your help, passing another class.” He speaks and you can’t help but roll your eyes, you had a tutoring service, you knew what you were getting yourself into - but you didn’t think this one particular person would keep coming back for every test. There had to be something he was good at! How would he have gotten into uni if he weren’t?
You chuckled, “Is there seriously nothing you can do on your own?” You question him airing your thoughts.
You’re sat in a corner, and Tom is a charmer, so naturally, his hand leans onto the wall, keeping you in your place, he’s wearing a pair of jeans and a shirt that suggests he’ll be sleeping in it tonight after he’s blacked out on his own bed, “Look, princess,” He almost spits, “Help me out, it’s the least you can do for me, after all, you’re the one making the money.”
and although, ALTHOUGH, you hate Thomas Stanley Holland with almost every single bone in your body...
you can’t help but feel a flutter in your stomach when he calls you princess.
You look him in the eye, almost slightly flustered, biting your lip, “Fine, I’ll teach you, just come by my dorm tomorrow at four and we can get started.”
“I have practi-” You cut Tom’s words off with the knife of your tongue.
“I don’t care what you have, if you won’t pass, there won’t be any practice at all. So I’d keep your mouth shut.” Tom takes note of your poisonous tone, nodding before he leaves you be in the exact same spot he found you in.
That night you went home with Katie, she was sloshed and drunk and could throw up all over you at any moment, but you were so tired. You wanted to hold her hair back, you so truely did, but you tied it up and let her be, despite her saying it was okay and to get some rest - you really did feel bad, and she should’ve taken her own advice.
The next day you didn’t have any classes, so you were determined to cram as much alone time in before Kate or Tom came to the dorm room. So you pretty much just sat on your ass all day, typing away at your computer and laughing at stupid YouTube videos in a pair of bike shorts and a baggy white t-shirt. You could see the black bralette you were wearing underneath it, but you weren’t expecting anyone so you depending on your memory to know when to change your clothes. But you didn’t think fast enough as there was a knock on your door. You walked over, expecting it to be Kate coming back from class or from getting Coffee with her girlfriend, but there’s almost so much luck for the world, and apparently, you didn’t get any at all.
“Thomas!” You shriek as you open the door wide, the dorm room was not far from a mess, but messy enough to say, “Sorry about the mess,” You invite him into the dorm room, hastily putting the blankets and pillows back into their places.
Tom walks into the familiar room, one he had been in many times and not for harmless fun. But to get his grades up. But there was a lot of things that you didn’t know about Tom Holland, a frat boy who’s life depends on the money he just so happens to have passed down to him. But Tom wasn’t the disgusting piece of crap you thought him out to be at all. The cheating? It was a rumour made by his piece of shit girlfriend, who just needed an excuse to dump him to get with her side-piece. But he was paraded for it by his friends, so he went a long with it - knowing that what was happening was so disgustingly gross and out of line. Tom to you was a bad guy, but in reality. He would be one of the nicest people you could ever know. Partially because of you.
To make it even clearer, Tom WAS that kind of guy, he’d been sleeping with everyone in sight before he got his girlfriend, to try and prove to you that he could hold a relationship, to prove to you that he was a good guy. He stopped the comments, convinced his friends to stop the comments as well. He was trying to be better because of you.
Tom tried not to look at how good you looked in your shorts and t-shirt, but his eyes couldn’t help following every inch of your body. He was trying his best, he really was. But he had to force his eyes away.
Finally after tiding up the place, slightly, you stood up properly and spoke, “Shall we get started?”
“Yes, we should.” Tom’s voice rang as you broke him out of whatever trance he was in before. He knew full well that he didn’t like you, but he didn’t know if that was him trying to convince himself, or if it was actually true - anymore at least.
You were sat down with Tom at the desk you had brought from IKEA not too long ago, you had a monitor and PC that sat in front of the two of you as you both worked on Tom’s History assignment. There was a sudden stop between the work-flow when you saw that Tom hadn’t been paying attention.
You looked at him as he looked at you, “Tom, pay fucking attention or there’s no way you’re going to pass and as much as I dislike you, I want you to do good.”
Guess being a nice person kills, huh? You can’t truely hate Tom, because there’s some mindset of yours unable to stop caring about Tom and how he does in school, because you feel bad for him.
Tom rolls his eyes, “Fine... what were you saying?” He tries to pay attention to you but you look way too good to be able to focus, so his eyes just stay on you and your voice drowns out.
You look at Tom who’s still looking at you rather than doing the work, “Tom,” Your voice shakes him out, as you shake him, your hand on his shoulder.
You yourself, didn’t realise how close the two of you were, but as your breath was on Tom’s face, and Tom’s breath was on yours. His hand moved up your thigh - and you let it. He moved closer and closer, his lips finally meeting yours as you kissed him back, the two of you stood up as you’re still kissing the air getting hotter and hotter.
Tom lifts your shirt over your head before pulling away for a minute, “Are you sure you wants this?” He questions you.
“Tom, if you keep talking, I’m going to change my mind.” You say before pressing your lips to his once more.
He unclips your bralette, his warm lips on yours, the winter’s air was nothing compared to what was happening in dorm 4B at this moment, his kisses moving down your neck to your chest, and your soft moans echo in your bedroom, nothing was stopping the two of you.
YOU AND TOM lay there, completely breathless.
‘What the fuck just happened?’ You asked yourself in shambles before standing up and getting yourself dressed.
“You need to leave,” You tell Tom as he sits up.
He chuckles, “Why?” He smiles coyly.
You roll your eyes at Tom, slipping your white shirt back over your head. You sigh heavily as you look back at him once more, “Tom, I can’t even fathom what happened here, right now.”
“We had sex, Y/N, there’s not much to unpack here.” He speaks softly, “Look, I get that you hate me or whatever,” He stands as he puts his sweatpants and jersey back on, “But I’ve never hated you.”
He grabs his shoes and slides them back on, before grabbing his backpack and leaving you to your own thoughts. That was the first time you’d ever heard him say something like that. That he never hated you. You had just assumed he did because of the way he acted towards you. You fell back onto your bed.
You started to question your hatred for Tom, but you didn’t know how long it would take before your feelings would soon unpack, it was harder to do than expected. You thought it was black and white. But it’s a lot harder, way harder than you initially thought.
You heard the door open as Katie slammed the door behind her shut, checking in on you as her head popped into your room.
“Katie, I had sex with Tom Holland.” You spoke, almost afraid of the words that came out of your mouth.
S P R I N G
THE FLOWERS HAD STARTED TO BLOSSOM, you hadn’t talked to Tom since what happened in your room and you made every effort to ignore him or avoid him no matter how hard he tried.
What happened with him happened in January, it was now April. It had been four months, four months of just thinking. Debating with yourself and debating with your feelings. Tom didn’t make it easier to think about him either. He was trying to grab your attention so madly that it drove the two of you insane for each other.
Your phone didn’t stop pinging with text messages and emails and phone calls from the boy. It drove you mad.
You store at your phone for longer than a minute while drinks were happening for a little girls night that Katie had planned, “Stop staring at your phone, Y/N,” Katie’s girlfriend spoke.
“Sorry,” You apologised softly, as Ciera laughed.
“Don’t apologise,” She sighed, “What’s happening for you right now is complicated, you had hate sex and you’re scared of commitment to the person you had hate sex with when he’s more than ready to commit to something you’re not.”
You whacked Ciera over their arm, “OW!” She shrieks.
“Sorry Ciera, but I’m not afraid of commitment.” You tell them, “I’m just afraid of committing to Tom himself,”
Katie walks into the kitchen, three glasses in her hand, “He’s a good person, y’know,” Katie sits down the glasses in front of you and Ciera.
“It’s true,” Ciera speaks, “He’s not as bad as you say he is,”
You end up rolling your eyes at both of their words, “I know, but I’ve just always seen him in the worst light there is, rude to teachers, to people, at parties he gets blackout drunk - always coming to me when he needs help, tries to form a friendship, forgets all about it the next day and comes running back to me again, so sorry if I’m a little on the fence.” You tell your best friends.
Ciera rubs your arm, looking at Katie, “We’re gonna leave you to cool off and think alright, we’ll be at the bar about five minutes away, we’ll see you soon.” Ciera and Katie sigh leaving you to your thoughts.
You walk over to the couch and turn on the TV, sitting down you look at the glass of drink in your hand, placing it down on the coffee table. Your dorms windows were open so you just looked at the night sky through them, it wasn’t cold nor hot. A little warm - you wished you could forget about all of the shit that was happening at the moment. But Tom wouldn’t leave you alone, he texted you asking you how you were doing, trying to grab your attention. You had to admit it, it was kind of sweet of him to text you once a day and ask. To call you to try to ask. He left a voicemail everyday too, and they were filled with nice messages for you to listen to. Just him talking about his day.
You thought of what you had said earlier, being scared to commit to Tom. You sighed as your head turned back to the TV, you felt something in you that you hadn’t felt before. A sense of urgency. You slipped on a pair of shoes and made your way to Tom’s Frat house.
It wasn’t late, so you just banged on the door. Out came Harrison Osterfield, Tom Hollands best friend - not to mention the fact that you also helped him pass a couple of his classes, he was Tom’s best friend and a good guy. He made an effort to say ‘Hey Y/N!’ in the Quad or if he sees you on your way to class.
Why couldn’t you like Harrison? you asked yourself as he met your eyes.
“Hey Haz,” You smile.
Haz chuckled, “Hello, Y/N, what can I do for you today?”
“Do you by any chance know where Tom is?” You queried, “It’s kinda important? I dunno, but I have to talk to him.”
“Well, he’s upstairs in his room, third room on the right.” He said opening the large door a little more to let you inside.
You made your way into the large mansion (well, a really big house, but extra points for the spiral staircase in the middle of the house), the house looked different with nobody in it. There was lots of room to move around and you didn’t have to sit in one corner of the room. The floor was a pearled white marble, something you hadn’t actually seen before. You made your way up the large staircase and over to Tom’s room.
Before entering, you knocked on the door, when you walked in you saw something you didn’t want to see at all, “WHAT THE FUCK, TOM?” You almost screamed, as he looked up at you, fear in his eyes - he was obviously in bed with some blonde bitch.
“Y/N WAIT,” he hurries to put his pants on before running after you.
“NO TOM, I’M NOT WAITING FOR YOU, I CAME HERE TO BE MORE LIKE YOU’VE WANTED FOR THE PAST THREE MONTHS AND YOU’RE IN BED WITH SOMEONE ELSE, I WAS READY TO FACE MY FEARS AND JUMP INTO THE DEEP END.” You felt like you were on the verge of tears. He had done all this waiting for you, so you felt like you owe him some time, time to talk to explain himself, but it didn’t feel worth it.
Tom’s face goes red, “I’VE BEEN WAITING FOR YOU, Y/N, SO DESPERATELY AND THE ONE TIME I ASK YOU TO WAIT YOU SAY NO-”
“YOU WERE IN BED WITH SOMEONE ELSE, THOMAS,” You groan frustrated, calming yourself down, “I was afraid to commit to you, Tom. I always saw you as some shitty person, but after seeing you wait for me taking your time. I’m still not ready but I thought, ‘Hey! that’s the beauty of something scary, you never know!’” you quote your thoughts, “BUT I GUESS I WAS RIGHT.”
You made your way out the door as Tom grabbed your arm, “Y/N,” His eyes looked into yours, they were clearly sorry - but you couldn’t buy it anymore, “I’m sorry.”
You knew he was, you could hear it in the voice crack, the tears that were now running down his face. He sniffled as he held your arm, knowing that he fucked up. Although you wanted to wait, you knew you should’ve made a move sooner. You had so much time and even going into the frat house today, you didn’t even know but you knew you’d never be ready for something like this without going into it head on.
Tom fucked up by not waiting when he told you was.
Although the two of you weren’t dating, it still hurt like a knife to the chest.
“Fucking, bullshit Tom.” You said it. Immediately regretting it when it came out of your mouth.
You stormed out of the house, Tom’s hot hand leaving your skin.
S U M M E R
YOU, KATIE AND CIERA are on the beach, you’d actually flown to another country to do so, Greece was lovely this time of year.
You store into the clear blue waters as Katie and Ciera swam their lives away staying next to each other. To say the least, you were quite jealous of them. Not just because any chance at a relationship with Tom had flown out the window. You were shattered at the thought. The girls thought a nice getaway would do you good, better than Tom could ever. But they were wrong.
Now that you and Tom weren’t going to be together, you wanted him more than you could’ve wanted him before. You stood up, your toes in the sand as you called out to your friends.
“Guys! I’m gonna go for a little walk around, I’ll catch you guys back here in a little bit,” They both nodded, not giving a second thought before you walked away. This was more of an excuse to get away together and have you be the third wheel.
You walked through the streets looking around at boutiques and stores that line the streets. You walked into a few and ran your hand over the racks. You didn’t buy anything. But the thought was nice, as you walked however, you saw a familiar face standing in an Ice-Cream shop.
“Haz?” You asked as he turned to you with a smile.
He chuckled, wrapping his arms around you, “Hey, Y/N!”
After you and Tom had the argument, you had been avoiding Tom at all costs, you hadn’t however been ignoring the other guys, and the other guys told Tom how you were doing. You would smile and talked to his friends and the second he should show up, you leave Tom in the dust and in the dark.
“So who are you here with?” You questioned Haz.
His smile falters but he catches it, “Just the boys, you know, Tuwaine, Harrison...” he trails off for a moment, “Tom.”
You sigh, “Well, I hope you guys are having a good time, I better get going, Katie and Ciera are waiting at the Hotel for me.”
Harrison groans playfully, “How about you text your friends and come hang out with us?” He smiles, charming.
“What about Tom?” You questioned.
Harrison sighs looking at you softly, “You and Tom need to talk, wether it’s under the influence, or wether it’s sober. You and him need to talk - he’s completely crushed. He has been for four months, you guys haven’t talked in four months, even before that you barely talked.”
“Look, Haz, Tom and I slept together and he pined for me and then I got him in bed with some blonde bitch and the rest is now.” You glared at Haz for even trying, but he was right - the two of you needed to talk. It wasn’t debatable anymore, you let out a heavy sigh, “But, I’ll go, you’re right.”
“Okay,” Harrison smiles, “If you want Ciera and Katie to come, they can.”
“Trust me, they’re probably very busy.” You laugh and wink as he leads you back to where the boys were partying for the night. It came quicker than it left, one minute you were on the beach, the next it was dark and you were at a bon fire, where there were only five partygoers, you and four boys.
“HARRY!!!” you hear three voices chime loudly, as you walk out Haz those cheers stop.
“H-Hey, Y/N,” Tom speaks nervously.
“Hey Tom.”
A few moments later, is what it feels like, after you’ve drunk a few drinks, you’re laughing with Tom, smiling with Tom, getting feely with. Tom. You were telling so many stories about your life during uni, during high-school and embarrassing ones at that. They traded theirs and you traded yours. It was turning out to be a fun time, and then Haz, Harrison and Tuwaine all turned in. You watched as the fire burnt in front of you and Tom, the yellow and orange flame.
You weren’t totally sloshed and neither was Tom, maybe just a little tipsy, a little more relaxed, “Tom, I’m sorry,” You spoke, “What happened between us all those nights ago - It just really hurt, Tom.”
“I can’t keep telling you how sorry I am, I fucked up,” He sighs.
You sigh, “We both fucked up, Tom. I should’ve told you how I was feeling and I shouldn’t have made you wait for me.”
“And I shouldn’t have fucked someone else,”
“You had every right to-”
“NO I DIDN’T.” He raises his voice, “I shouldn’t have slept with someone else, because I am so in love with you.”
You couldn’t believe what he had told you, “Tom I-”
“You don’t have to say anything if you don’t want to, I just- I needed you to know,” He stands, walking away before you can say anything else.
A U T U M N
ALTHOUGH YOU KNEW HOW TOM FELT ABOUT YOU, you still decided to hangout with him, be friends. Figure out what you wanted to do about it. Do about your feelings for him. You felt like you were leading him on but every time you asked him about it, he assured you differently. He was okay with being friends, but you’ll always know he’ll want more.
You and Tom walked through campus, the leaves that blossomed now orange and yellow, falling from the sky - crunching under your feet, a warm cup of hot chocolate in your hands. You had a warm navy winter coat over your figure. Tom linked his arm with yours.
“I’ve got class,” He feels his phone vibrate in his pocket with a reminder telling him about his class.
You smile pulling him closer, “I’ll see you later then,” He hugs you and you tighten it, not wanting to let go of him, but reluctantly doing so. You watch as he walks away, Katie walking up behind you with her own cup of Coffee.
“Where’s he going?” Katie asks you and you look over at her.
“Class.” The word comes out of your mouth, almost as if you’re sad to watch him walk away. That’s because you were sad to watch him walk away.
Katie chuckles, “Let’s get back to the dorm, Ciera bought donuts!” She jumps, excited to go back.
“What kind?” You question your best friend.
She freezes, “Well she’s my girlfriend so,”
“That means that she was clearly thinking of you, so I take it they bought-”
“Jam!” Katie smiles, as the two of you walk, she skips.
This is what you wanted with Tom. You wanted him to buy you donuts and for you to get excited when he doesn’t even ask what type you want - you wanted him to just surprise you with the smallest things. Remember the smallest details. But you had missed it all, every morning, Tom brought you a coffee as the two of you headed to the only class the two of you had together, that he hadn’t asked you for your order at all, or your birthday earlier that month, he brought you your favourite soft drink, even though he hadn’t asked you what it was. Not to mention he wrapped your gift in your favourite colour. But you were so blindsided to all of that. You weren’t seeing it at all.
You got back to your dorm and left Katie and Ciera to watch TV on the couch when you headed into your room. You sat on your bed, as you looked at the shelf that sat across from it, Tom’s present sat perfectly on it. It wasn’t much, it was just a Viynl of your favourite TV Character, he had told you he wanted to get you something else - but they didn’t have it in stock anywhere. To which you assured him it was okay. You sighed at you just looked at it; store at it. Almost a minute had passed - what seemed like the longest minute of your life. So many thoughts had travelled through your head. So many questions.
All of them unanswered.
All, except for one. This question had been everything since the night you and Tom slept together for the first and only time, but looking at the present. Thinking about the late night studies or when the two of you recently developed the stupid habit of meeting in the library when the two of you couldn’t sleep, or just going on walks around the campus - laughing with each other. You were so afraid. But you were stupid for being so afriad. Tom had been a better friend than anyone could have ever been (except for Katie and Ciera of course), you and Tom had a connection that was irreplaceable. Somewhat unbreakable. It’s hard to think that you hated him. hard to think that you found him unbearable. But it was also hard to think that you could avoid him. Ignore him. Stop being friends with him.
But you just ended up together in the end anyway.
So what was the point? What was the point running from something that was always going to catch upto you anyway?
NIGHT FELL ON THE CAMPUS, you weren’t exactly sure what you were doing but it felt like the night you caught Tom in bed with that girl all over again. But this time you knew you wouldn’t. Because Tom assured you he wouldn’t. Not till you told him no. So you took his absolute word for it.
You looked at the large doors of the Frat House that sat in front of you, knocking violently, waiting for someone to open the door - It was Haz, and although you didn’t say anything. He knew what you were going to do. So he shut the door, and you took a step back composing yourself, readying yourself for what you were about to do and you could never be truely ready, but you had to trust your gut on this one.
You weren’t on the doorstep anymore, you were on the ground, in front of the stairs that lead to the House as Tom walked outside. You weren’t wearing anything special. You were wearing your bike shorts and a white shirt. You were wearing white runners and ankle-high socks. Your hair the same as it always was. You looked at the boy and his curls with a smile.
He knew what was coming - but he let you speak, “Tom, for a long time. I was scared. So fucking scared that I pushed you away. If I’m going to be completely one-hundred percent honest with you, I’ve had feelings for you from the start. But I let my thoughts get the better of me. I let myself think you were some douchebag, when in reality - you’re the exact opposite. You’re the kindest, sweetest, most caring person in the world. God, this is so cliché.” You chuckles as he laughs along with you, however, you start to tear up a little, overcome with emotions, “I always thought I was incapable of finding someone to love, someone who would love me the same way that Ciera and Katie love each other or the same way that Patrick Verona and Julia Stiles love each other.”
Tom smiles at the last reference - you had forced him to watch 10 Things I Hate About You on one of those lonely nights the two of you spent unable to sleep and you told him you cried so much at the movie - he assured you he wouldn’t. But he failed.
“Look Tom, what I’m trying to say is that-” You stop yourself for a moment. It takes everything in your body to finally spit it out. Say what you’ve been wanting to say and when you do. It feels so good.
“I... Love.. You.” You said it.
Tom bolts over to you, pressing his lips to yours it’s more desperate and hungry something that reminded you of the first night the two of you kissed. But it was just as magical, just like every single kiss to come, just like every single peck on the cheek. Every single laugh. Every single smile, hug, handhold. Every single night where the two of you will just lay next to each other. The movie nights, the dates.
All of it.
Because every single time it does. Every single time any of those happens.
You somehow manage to fall in love with him all over again.

-IF YOU HAVE ANY REQUESTS DONT HESITATE TO ASK-
Things after the war ended had been chaotically peaceful. Turns out that leading an entire nation, specially when it was the one that caused the war, and reuniting the lands that had for so long been against eachother was harder than all of you thought. The fact that a group of teenagers were the head of the operation wasn’t a big advantage either.
Sure, Aang and Zuko, who were the ones who had the most important positions when it came to politics and diplomacy, had advisors and people around to help guide them, but it was still a hard job. Nevertheless, without a war or fighting, you were sure it was good for the entire group to keep busy. They’d kept a lifestyle of always moving around and being on guard for so long it would’ve been a big shock to be forced to stay still after that.
Katara and Sokka travelled back and forth from the Southern Water Tribe to the Fire nation a few times, not too often though because of how far apart the two were. That was a shame because of how close you’d grown to Katara and her motherly self, her advice and her unconditional friendship, and even to Sokka and his bad jokes, his way of teasing everyone and how he could make you smile even when you weren’t in the mood, you even missed how mad he made you sometimes. Suki went with them to spend some time away from everything, she loved her life as a Kioshi warrior but she decided she needed a break after everything she had gone through.
Aang, on the other hand, was traveling all over but mostly between the Earth kingdom, were he would very often meet with Katara, and the Fire nation. You got to see him way more often than you got to see Katara, Suki and Sokka, although he tended to be busy with avatar business. He was doing a great job, you had to admit. The people loved him, he found a way to spread his teachings and the teachings of the Air nomads to the world and uniting others helping them put aside their differences seemed to be his thing now more than ever. But most importantly he seemed truly happy, one time he even told you he finally felt like he was making all the air nomads proud, wherever they were.
Toph still wanted to be away from her parents, so she refused to go back to the Earth Kingdom. She hated the cold, not being able to use her seismic senses in the snow and being bossed around by katara, so she refused to go with them too. So when you offered her to stay with you, she accepted. She made it seem as though it was her last choice because she had to keep her tough girl reputation, but actually she liked you a lot, she saw you kind of as a big sister. You took care of her in a way no one had before, not seeing her as helpless and weak but still being there for her when she needed you. Though she’d never tell this to anyone aloud.
And Zuko was still Zuko, just that now he was a Firelord. He took his job very seriously, determined to prove wrong everyone who had said he was too young or too weak for it. He knew the big responsibility he had in his hands and he seemed to be doing really well. He had his moments, of course, where he would have outbursts of emotion and anger, but he always found his way back to being who he needed to be for his Nation, and you always helped with that. He was the one who suggested you stayed in the Fire nation as a representative of the Northern Water tribe. You were hesitant at first, but after thinking the idea over you realized you had no business up in the tribe, you’d been away for a long time and you weren’t ready to go back just yet.
The two of you had never been incredibly close in the time since he joined the gaang, but you couldn’t denied there was a connection between the two. You got his humor and he got yours, you could tease eachother all day without getting butthurt, you could open up and talk about deep stuff under the stars on a sleepless night, and spending time with him seemed easier to do than with most people. You’d brushed this off as the two of you being good friends for a good while, even after you moved into the palace and started to hang out with him more, but for the past few weeks it’s been getting harder to do.
Every time Toph, him and you ate lunch together and he sat in front of you, you couldn’t help but end up staring at him, not in a weird, creepy way but in a ‘I’m mesmerized by you why am i mesmerized by you and since when are your eyes such a beautiful shade of gold’ way. You were in denial about it but deep down you knew you were starting to have a crush on him, and eventually Toph caught up to it too.
One night after diner she pulled you into her room, closed the door and said “Listen, Snow queen, I’m kinda tired of your heart going crazy every time mister flaming pants is around so you either get over your little crush, tell him how you feel or I will personally snitch on you directly to him, understood?” You didn’t even have the guts to deny it to her, specially since she’d know if you were lying, so you just heavily sighed and looked at the floor. She must’ve felt bad for you cause she took your hand and dragged you to sit on her bed to interrogate you about the situation.
“Out of anyone you could’ve ended up liking I never saw this one coming” she told you taking a seat on the opposite side of the bed
“Don’t get me started” you threw yourself back to the bed and stared at the ceiling for a second before speaking again “Like how dumb do I have to be to crush on someone who isn’t only probably the busiest man on all kingdoms right now, but also royalty and... well Zuko. He would never like a girl like me and even if he did, he probably has to end up with a princess or something.”
“I’m not letting you drown in a pity party here, ok?” Toph pulled your wrist and forced you to sit back up and look at her. “He’s lucky a girl as decent as you is willing to put up with that temper of his and how annoying he can get. Now what are you gonna do about it?”
“Nothing?” You replied in a low voice not taking a second to think about it. Toph punched you in the arm in response “Hey, what was that for?”
“What I said before still stands, I can’t deal with you being all flustered every time he’s around, so get over it or tell him how you feel.” She spat and all you could do was grunt and throw yourself back into the bed
So you were gonna get over it then. Easy task. Never done anything easier before.
It wasn’t.
Turns out that by trying to avoid Zuko at all costs you ended up stumbling into him even more. Around the corners, in the hallways, everywhere. The plan was to just avoid him as much as possible until eventually your feelings faded away, you couldn’t have a crush on someone you didn’t even see right? Wrong. Even when you weren’t around Zuko he was still on your mind. You tried to go to the palace library and distract yourself with literature, but reading romance books only made you feel more miserable and the only other option there was were war strategy books which you weren’t very interested in. The next distraction you chose was gardening, you loved nature and you were a water bender, it was the perfect task you thought, but once again you were wrong. You turned out to be such a bad gardener, Kya who was the one in charge of the royal gardens (and who was the sweetest lady) ended up banning you from messing with her flowers ever again. The last thing you could think of to stay away from Zuko was feeding the turtle ducks. It seemed like a good idea and on the few occasions you’d been in the pond before, the little animals seemed to be very fond of you. You couldn’t mess this one up, anyone could feed the ducks, but there was a little problem as it seemed to be the theme of that day, the Fire lord had forgotten to tell you that the pond was his place of choice when he needed to clear his head.
You didn’t even notice he was there until you heard his voice behind you. “Keep feeding them like this and they’ll get obese”
You jumped a bit out of surprise and turned around to face him with your palm pressed to your chest. “Spirits, Zuko, don’t do that to me, you’re gonna kill me one of these days” It was a bright and sunny day, the heat of the Fire nation weather made his face glimmer a little, his hair was up held by the royal Fire lord hair piece and he was wearing a version of his formal attire made for a hotter weather, leaving his muscly arms on display. As soon as you realized you were staring once again, you turned your attention back to the pond in an attempt to hide the blush that was slowly conquering your cheeks.
He took a sit next to you and waited a couple seconds before breaking the silence. “Hey... um... I don’t know if this is just me but you’ve been acting weird lately, is everything ok?” He asked looking at you.
“Everything is fine, definitely just you.” you replied not taking your eyes away from the shining water of the pond. The ducks had grown tired of waiting for you to keep feeding them and swam away.
“I... don’t think so. You didn’t come to breakfast today, everytime we’re together you seem to wanna leave as soon as possible and right now you can’t even look at me.” He paused before taking in a deep breath. “Did... did I do something to upset you?”
You finally turned around to look at him and the look you saw in his eyes was heartbreaking. Ever since he joined Team Avatar, Zuko had been making a huge effort to be good. You could see how sometimes he struggled to pick being kind and gentle over being erratic and explosive, and you also knew that had a lot to do with his childhood. But he had been doing such a good job at it, specially since he became Fire lord, he was so much more friendly, better at socializing and overall improving. And right now it was clear to you that you had made him feel like he was failing at being a good person and he’d somehow messed up with you.
You turned your body around slightly and put a reassuring hand on his knee before saying “Oh, Zuko, no. You haven’t done anything and I’m not upset at you, I mean that. It’s just...” coming up with lies and excuses had always been your strong point but having Zuko there making you ridiculously nervous wasn’t a factor that helped. “I.. uh...I’m getting a little homesick, you know? With Toph gone most of the day and you busy, I’ve been feeling a little melancholic about my home, but it’s nothing I promise. I’m just trying to find something to do with my time.” You we’re impressed with yourself with this one, it actually sounded pretty convincing.
You thought you had the situation handled until Zuko spoke again a few seconds later. “Y/N, I’m sorry. I hadn’t realized until now with all the chaos of being Fire lord but I asked you to stay here and represent the Northern Water tribe and I haven’t even given you time out of my day. I haven’t been the best host, have I?” Before you could even reply he widened his eyes and said “I have an idea, tomorrow I’ll take the day off and we can go on a small field trip to this cabin my family has on the ourskirts of town, there are some nice fields and it’s very peaceful, we’ll have a picnic lunch there and just relax. You can even ask Toph to come with. How does that sound?”
He looked at you expectantly and you started to look for reasons to turn him down, but you couldn’t bring yourself to do it. It was true that you hadn’t had much time to spend with him ever since he took his position, and in all honesty, crush or not you really did miss him. Your weakness for him won the battle and you ended up accepting the plan saying it was a great idea. The regent stood up from his place and assuring you he’d have everything ready for the next day he left.
You really had messed up this time.
—————
The next morning you put on a flowy, flower-print dress. It was classy but at the same time comfortable and light enough to handle the summer weather. You had nervously been looking at yourself in the mirror for way too long now. Before dinner the past night you at least had hopes that Toph would come with to the field trip and she would help you contain yourself when it came to Zuko, but of course that wasn’t the case. When he had brought the topic up at the table Toph limited herself to look at you knowingly and say “You know what? I happen to be very busy tomorrow, you know, I’m trying to get a name for myself in the Fire nation’s fighting scene and I have a fight tomorrow, sorry.” You knew she was lying because she had told you about her fight but instead of the next day it was three days from then. All you could do was look at the little devil and make sure you wrote a mental note of getting back at her as soon as you could.
So here you were, minutes ago from embarking in a field trip with the person you were supposed to avoid, and you had no idea how you were gonna get out of this one.
A knock on your door startled you and took you out of your worrying thoughts. A few seconds later a maid’s head popped in as she said “Lady Y/N, Firelord Zuko and the carriage are ready for you.” You took a deep breath and walked towards the door while replying with a soft “Thank you, Yun”
The carriage waited for you in front of the palace and so did Zuko. He was already inside, sheltering himself from the unforgiving sun, so you startled him when you hopped inside. “Y/N, you look...nice” he complimented you, a faint blush running through his cheeks making him gain a more childish and youthful look.
“Thank you, Zuko. Likewise.” You responded attempting to stay as calm as you could. You hated that he had so much power over you.
He ordered for you to be in your way before the carriage started moving swiftly. Your eyes flowed to the window, looking out at the capital city of the Fire nation. “You’ve done a great job leading this people. They look... so happy.” You drew your eyes back at Zuko as he stared at you. It was you who was starting to blush now.
“I hope so. I’ve done everything I’m capable of to change the old ways of this nation. I hope I’m making the right choices.” A worrisome look took over his eyes as he let his own attention drift towards the streets.
“Hey” you called to him as you stretched your hand to cover his. “You’re doing just fine Zuko. You’ve done so much for these people and all the other nations as well, I’m sure you’ll do even more good.”
He faintly smiled at you as a response and you could tell that although he did worry about the future, your reassurance helped.
The rest of the ride was spent pointing out the animals you saw on the road, sharing childhood stories about when Zuko and his mom used to come here when they both needed to get away from everything, and a bit of teasing about how Zuko had no idea what to pack for a picnic and had to ask the head chef of the kitchen for help. Luckily you had become friends with chef Karou in the time you’d been living in the palace and he knew your taste rather well.
When you finally arrived there was no sight of the usual movement and noise proper of a big city, the air was filled with the peculiar scent of flowers you couldn’t recognize just yet and grass. In the distance at your left you could see a small cattle of Hippo cows and Komodo chickens. And at your right a long field of grass and flowers that seemed to go up in a small and almost unnoticeable hill.
You and Zuko stepped down the carriage just as a guard handed him the picnic basket. The tall regent turned to you and ordered “Follow me, I wanna show you something”. You did as you were told, being led by him all the way up the hill until you were at the very top. When the two of you got there your breath was taken away by the beautiful view you had in front of you. A huge field of flowers layed gracefully at the end of the hill and extended far enough that it connected to the horizon.
“This is...” you started but were so taken aback by the view you didn’t finish your sentence.
Zuko seemed to understand regardless and replied “I know.” Behind you he started to set up a cloth for the two of you to sit on. You forced yourself to remove your attention from the field and place it on what was going on behind you. Taking a seat on the opposite end of the cloth you helped him take out all the items chef Karou had packed for you. When you were done you looked at Zuko and said “Thanks for this. It’s really nice.”
“No need to thank me, I’ve been leaving you alone so much time lately. I know aside from Toph I’m pretty much all you have here so take this as a ‘Sorry I’ve been a terrible friend’ offering.” He smiled wide expecting you to do the same but that smile faded away as soon as he saw the expression on your face.
‘Friend’
The word echoed in your head as your eyes dropped to the food you had in front of you. Of course he saw you as a friend. You had almost convinced yourself you should confess your feelings to him and he goes on to call himself your friend. A knot in your throat started to form and you did your best to show it as little as you could. But you obviously failed.
“Everything ok?” Zuko asked tilting his head to catch your eyes.
You looked up and faked a smile. “Yeah... just thinking how far we’ve come.” You lied through your teeth before continuing. “Anyways, enough of all the cheesiness, I’m starving.”
“Agreed” He replies picking up something for himself. You chose a small salty biscuit with a mix of meats on top and decided to distract yourself with it. “Chef Karou said you’d like that one. He also said you hated onions and peas. What type of weirdo hates peas?”
You chuckled a little, the feeling that oppressed your chest fading away quickly. “I do. They’re disgusting and if you like them I don’t trust you.”
Zuko laughed loudly before remarking “Its not like I like them, Y/N. It’s just a weird thing to be picky over. They’re peas, they don’t really taste like anything.”
You widened your eyes and quickly swallowed the bite of biscuit you had taken. “What do you mean they don’t taste like anything? They taste disgusting and they are mushy and just... gross”
Zuko replies with another laugh. His laugh made you feel warm inside, it could make you forget about everything, Toph’s threats, your previous plans and even the now faint voice poking the back of your mind telling you to be careful or you’d get your heart broken.
The two of you kept eating and chattering at the same time. You’d finished the salty food and it came time for the desert. Chef Karou had made a type of cake and stored it inside a small glass jar. You tried opening the lid but it was too hard. You heard Zuko in front of you offering you help but you refused it telling him you could do it on your own. After a couple minutes of struggling , Zuko took your deep sigh as a sign of defeat and scooted closer to you. “Here, let me.” He took the jar from your hands and quickly opened the lid, handing it back to you. You looked up expecting to find a smug smirk that felt way to familiar to you at this point but instead you found his serious face dangerously close to yours.
You took the jar back and set in down. “Thanks” you muttered softly and quietly. His only response was to slowly but firmly raise a hand up to your face to put away a strand of hair that had fallen. His touch sent shivers down your spine. All thoughts of caution escaped your mind as you felt his face so close you could feel his warm breath mixing with yours. The tension between you seemed to almost be to much to handle when you thought you saw Zuko lean in a little. Before anything else could happen, one of the guards that had come with and stayed back where the carriage was spoke. “Firelord Zuko”
The golden eyed boy dropped his hand from your face and turned around to face the guard. “Have they not taught you to not interrupt people when they’re talking privately?”
“I am very sorry, Firelord.” The guard bowed in sign of respect. “But we have just received a messenger hawk with a letter from the palace. The Avatar and you other friends are here.”

Live Like Animals
Nessian Modern AU
Merry Chris-  er, happy New Year to my secret snowflake!  @ncssian 💕😅
I hope you like the fic! I’ll be honest, when I filled out the application for the secret snowflake, I said I could make a fic believing that it was very unlikely somebody would ask for one 🥴🤔 But lemme say, I LOVED writing this, which is definitely something I didn’t expect. More than that, I’ve never been much of a Nesta or Nessian fan, but actually thinking through their characters and interactions for this fic gave me a whole new perspective on and appreciation for them (even if I’m not the best at writing their characters, aha), so thank you!
A few quick things about the fic:
(Ik I already told you this, but for anybody else reading this aha) This is my first fic! So please take it easy on me 🥺👉🏻👈🏻
Okay so this part is kind of weird, but there’s kind of a corresponding playlist 😅 Each part is named after a song. You can play the songs while reading or not, I know for me personally (*cough* my ADHD ass) it’s hard to listen to music and read at the same time. The title is also the name of a song! Except that one is more random, haha (I couldn’t think of a title, so I shuffled my entire library and chose the first song as the title, and it kinda worked so I went with it)
One more quick thing – thanks to @moussescientist @ko0mbayamylord @blxckbeak @chanberry @mikitheswiftie @potatoburp @dead-on-the-inside666 @queenoffortunes and two anons for answering a question, and a HUGE thanks to Skye, @oneoutofamillionbooklovers for all your help and for roleplaying the parts I got stuck on with me ❤️
Part 1: Distant Early Warning (Rush)
Nesta pulled the dress over her head, letting it slide into place over her body. Screw this, she thought for the millionth time, yet she continued to get herself ready, turning to glance at her reflection when she was finished. She raised an eyebrow and nodded slightly at the woman looking back through the mirror. The woman Nesta spied had on a satin slip dress, darkest blue. She wore no jewelry save for the small silver studs in her ears, and her hair was pulled into a neat-yet-simple updo.
Why Nesta even agreed to go to this party she didn’t know. There was nothing different about it, just another college booze fest. The music would be too loud, the air too heavy, the guys too grabby, and the company too... clubby. Feyre insisted that she would fit right into her friend group – her clique – but Nesta wasn’t sure she wanted that. She padded over to the door of her apartment. No, Nesta was quite certain that “fitting in” with Feyre’s newfound friends was something she didn’t care for at all.
Nesta’s phone buzzed on her kitchen counter as she slipped on a pair of black heels, and she picked up to Feyre’s forcibly perky voice. “Hey! We just pulled up, you coming?”
“No.” Response blunt, tone dry. The line was silent for a long moment, and Nesta held in a sigh. “Did I give you the impression that I was interested in coming?”
“Nesta, I’m not in the mood for fucking around,” Feyre said, perkiness mysteriously faded now. “It’s just one party! I promise you’ll have fun.” Bullshit.
“Since when have I ever-”
“And everyone else really wants you to come, too!” Feyre cut her off, “Rhys is excited to meet you!”
Rhys. Feyre’s boyfriend. Nesta groaned inwardly, truly dreading any interaction with the rugby star. Feyre had immediately caught the eye of the local heartthrob, and the two began a serious relationship shortly after meeting. And with one came the others. In high school they would have been labeled “popular.” They were quite possibly the closest group of friends at the college, almost all of them having known each other since childhood. And Feyre had slipped right in among them. Nesta had warned Feyre against making the tight pack of fourth-years her main group of friends, and she had her own opinions about a freshman dating a senior, but Feyre didn’t make a habit of following Nesta’s advice. Rather, she seemed to think she could give Nesta – a third-year – much more valuable guidance. Domineering bitch.
“I don’t give a shit about your friends, Feyre. I’m only coming because of our deal,” Nesta said. Feyre had been pestering her all semester, spewing crap about how Nesta and Feyre should spend more time together. Nesta should get out more. Nesta should tag along with Feyre’s friend group. Nesta should have some fun.
More bullshit.
As second semester began, Feyre had proposed a deal: Nesta would go to one party with Feyre and her buddies, and if she honestly didn’t enjoy it, Feyre would stop asking her to join them.
“I’m on my way. Let’s just get it over with,” Nesta grumbled, and with that, she hung up the phone and opened the apartment door.
Part 2: Can You Afford to Be An Individual? (Nothing but Thieves
Nesta looked around the group of fourth-years–plus Feyre–arranged in front of her. Introductions were unnecessary; you couldn’t attend this school without knowing who they were. Her eyes fell first upon Rhys, his arm around Feyre’s waist. His chin lifted slightly as she made eye contact. Rhys: double major in history and foreign policy. President of the astrology club. Captain of the rugby team, possibly one of the best players the school had ever seen. He was the group leader, though nobody said it aloud. Nesta knew him well. Perhaps she only knew his type well, or her own perception of his type, but that didn’t keep her from holding his gaze a few moments longer than would be comfortable. Then she turned her scrutiny on his sidekicks, so she called them, Cassian and Azriel. The former wore jeans and a baggy black jacket over his rugby uniform in the school colors: black and red. The latter wore black pants with a dark blue button-down shirt untucked.
Cassian smirked as her eyes met his. “Glad you decided to make an appearance,” he drawled. She narrowed her eyes at him, and his smile widened in response. Cocky bastard. Azriel, double majoring in political science and criminology, simply nodded at her in greeting.
After the sidekicks came Rhys’s cousin Mor, an architecture major with a minor in design. She was entirely too peppy in a way that left Nesta exhausted, but Nesta wouldn’t give her satisfaction by scoffing at her cocked hip and half-grin, ostensibly projecting confidence. She held Mor’s stare, matching her asserted confidence with a cool security in her own assets. The half-smile twisted, just slightly, and Nesta moved on to the short girl farthest to the right: Amren.
Amren scared people. As in, people were genuinely freaked out by her. Aside from a few cultish tendencies, her occasional propensity for violence and/or verbal outbursts, and her sharp expression, though, Nesta couldn’t tell why. Amren majored in gemology and minored in linguistics, and was the only one in the group other than Feyre to have not known the others since they were little. In fact, she was studying here from abroad, though nobody actually knew where she was from. Unlike Mor, Amren presented a confidence that Nesta could believe in and respect. Nesta maintained her chilled posture, but let the bite in her expression retreat.
As for Feyre’s introducing Nesta, that was unnecessary as well. They all knew her; most upperclassmen did. Or rather they knew of her, by the name of heinous bitch. If she were being honest with herself, she didn’t mind the nickname.
“Okay,” Feyre started, her voice expectant as she tilted her chin to look at Rhys’s face, “Let’s head in?” Feyre, Rhys, and Nesta had met up with the rest of the group in the parking lot before they entered the party. Fashionably late, Feyre had told her on the drive in Rhys’s tesla. Rhys taught me that the key to maintaining his public image is in making grand entrances. God, Nesta wanted to laugh at Rhys’s influence over her.
As they entered the building holding the party Nesta immediately stiffened, and had to close her eyes for a moment against the harsh blue and purple lights cast by PAR cans. All senses at once were smacked by the presence of weed. The floor was vibrating, and speakers blasted near-deafening music so that all Nesta could really hear was thunder. Jesus Christ, I hate parties, she thought. A mass of sweaty bodies shifted and bounced through the too-heavy air ahead of her, some only silhouettes in the murky haze, through which Nesta saw red solo cups littering every possible surface. Suddenly she noticed Feyre standing next to her, fidgeting with her clutch and looking over expectantly. Nesta shot her a withering look that said, “This is not what we agreed to.” Feyre had the nerve to look guilty.
“Okay before you say anything,” Feyre began, “I know that look, and... I know this is a bit bigger than we talked about-”
“A bit?! This is a rager, Feyre. Do I look like I rage?”
“Okay no, but I promise Rhys and I have a plan.” Oh my God.
Nesta gave her another glare and plucked a cup off a nearby table. Sniffing it, she sighed and took a big swig. “Please, my dearest sister, do tell.”
“We’re going with a buddy system.”
Nesta coughed. “A buddy system – are you fucking kidding me?” She spied Rhys and his dickhead friends in the corner of her eye. “Wow, are arts and crafts before or after beer pong?”
Feyre rolled her eyes, calling a fresh wave of frustration to roll over Nesta. “Can you shut it with the attitude, Nesta? I already apologized for the crowd of people – it kind of got out of hand. Rhys told me before we left but I didn’t want to scare you out of coming.” She gave Nesta a pleading look.
“Tch, whatever. Who’s my buddy? I assume you’ll be with Rhys?”
Feyre beamed at her. “You’re paired up with Cassian!”
“Cassian.” Great. Alpha dickhead.
“Don’t be like that. He knows his way around these things and he’ll keep you from accidentally overdosing or blacking out.”
“Who said that wasn’t my intention?”
Feyre scrunched her face up. “Either way, you can’t deny that he’s bigger and taller than half the creepy guys here. He’ll keep unwanted attention away.”
Nesta watched as Rhys, lead hulking rugby bro dickhead, caught sight of her sister and eyed her with what might have been lust or love – Nesta couldn’t decide. Cassian, approaching from Rhys’s side, cut Nesta a slow, purposeful look down and back up to her face. She felt an annoying tingle down her spine as the crowds parted for them. This was going to be a long night.
Part 3: Inhaler (Foals)
They had been at the party for less than ten minutes and Nesta already wanted to leave. Drink in hand, she aimlessly wandered around the outskirts of the crowd, hoping to find a place to sit farther from the lights that drowned out any rational thought that flashed through her brain. Cassian trailed a few steps behind.
“So, what do you do for fun?”
She twisted around to glare at him. “Why are you talking to me?”
Cassian puffed out a laugh and spread his arms wide, responding, “If you don’t recall, we’re kind of stuck together, darling.”
Right. Nesta rolled her eyes. “How could I forget?” Cassian left the question hanging, still following her, so she forged on. “I like to read. A concept that’s probably foreign to you.” She dodged a young couple parting from the fray to make out against the wall, and paused to reorient herself.
“You might be surprised.” Nesta groaned inwardly and arched a brow. “Oh I have no doubt.”
“None at all?”
“What. Are you on volume seven of Captain Underpants?”
“Volume eight, actually.”
Nesta stopped. She was pissed. Pissed at this party, pissed at Feyre for lying about how big it was, pissed that she was stuck with rugby bro sidekick, pissed that the purple lights suddenly seemed a lot brighter, the music a lot louder, her thoughts a lot fuzzier. “Look, Cassian. I only came here as a favor to my sister. We’re not friends.” He started to cut her off, but she continued, turning so that they fully faced each other, “You don’t have to stay, I can take care of myself.”
He leaned in close, the laughter in his tone suddenly gone. “Listen, princess. You’ve had two beers and you’re already tipsy. I get it, we’re not friends. But there are at least four guys looking at you like they want to take you against the nearest surface and I’m the only man within a thirty-foot radius that has any self-control. There’s no way I’m leaving.” He held her gaze firmly.
“So that’s it – I’m just supposed to trust you? My knight in shining armor, here to protect my virtue? That ship sailed a long time ago.” Fuck it. “I wouldn’t mind taking you for a ride though,” Nesta said, flashing a smirk at the end.
Cassian’s lips twisted into a half-grin, but she could see annoyance rising up in his eyes. “Nesta, you don’t wanna play with me.”
“Brute.” Nesta turned and started walking away again.
“Bitch.” He followed.
Nesta scoffed. “How original.”
“Not all of us are English Lit majors.”
Somehow Nesta tripped on her own foot at that moment, staggering sideways into Cassian’s path. He lunged forward, arms going around her waist to hoist her upright. Her lip curled and she spit out, “And not all of us are rugby stars,” and shoved her way out of his arms.
“What does that have to do with anything?” Cassian asked, incredulous.
“Cassian, I’m sure there are plenty of girls here that would love your attention. But I’m not one of them.” She turned around to face him, walking backwards, and almost tripped again. “So go on and play with someone else. I don’t care. Just leave me alone.” With that, Nesta thrust herself into the fray, pushing her way through the mass of shouting people, making the crowd a barrier between herself and Cassian.
Part 4: Emergency (Nothing but Thieves)
After five minutes of random college students bumping into her from every direction, her head pounding and thoughts muddled, Nesta realized she didn’t know which direction the exit was in. Fuck. She was disoriented and exasperated, her frustration now showing in her usually unshakable expression. She couldn’t even tell which direction the light was coming from. How many beers had she drunk? Two? Three? She wasn’t usually a drinker, and it hit her then that she hadn’t eaten for hours before the party started. Stupid, she thought. This was why she didn’t do parties.
She was so distracted trying to figure out where the light source was, trying to get her bearings at least, that she didn’t catch sight of a brooding figure wending its way toward her until the man had a hold of her wrist and was pulling her to the side of the room, wherever that was.
“Hey! Get the fuck off me!” Nesta shouted over the crowd, but couldn’t get a response from the man until they found one of the cinder block walls.
“What’s the matter, sweetheart?” he asked, his voice cruel as he tried to pull her closer. “We’re just having a bit of fun, that’s all.”
“Excuse me?” Nesta ripped free of his grasp, but he backed her into a corner. He had a drink in one hand. Not good.
“Hey, hey, no need to get worked up,” he drawled, “I saw the way you were looking at me.” Looking at him? Nesta thought. This was the first she’d seen of him.
Nesta tried to step to the side, but the man followed her, his senses keener than hers in her condition. He reached out for her arm again, and Nesta shouted this time. “Don’t touch me!”
He put his hand up as if in innocence. “Come now, I’ll make it fun for you. Just have a drink.” He brought the cup toward her face, his hand now reaching behind her head, which she snatched away.
“I swear to God, can’t you bastards understand that no means no?”
“You-”
“Get the fuck away from me, creep!” She aimed a kick at his groin, but he easily dodged it.
His mouth hardened into a line, and he growled, “Just take the damn drink, bitch!”
The man shoved her into the corner, her head hitting the wall. He brought his hand up to hold her back by her shoulders as he brought the cup up toward her lips and-
“Let me go or I promise you’ll regret it.” Last resort.
He shot her a crooked grin and began to reply, but whatever response he had in mind was cut short.
A voice from behind him said, “And she never goes back on a promise, asshole.” The man was wrenched off her body by two strong hands, and pulled over to the side to give her an out, which she quickly took advantage of.
And there, dragging the man away from her, was Cassian.
The creep tried to play it cool. “Hey, Cassian, bro, what’s up, man?” he said mock-casually, “I caught your last game! great playing, dude!” His demeanor shifted completely as he turned on his bro mode.
Cassian’s jaw was set. He tightened his grip on the man’s shoulder, his stare withering. “You need to leave. Right now.”
Yet the man kept going with a smirk, “It’s all good bro, we can share.”
That was a step too far.
Cassian grabbed the man’s shirt, pulling him close. “That’s the thing – I don’t share. I don’t play nice.” Cassian thrust his face forward so they were only a couple inches apart. “You said you caught my last game, right? So you know I don’t go down without a fight. Touch her again and you’ll regret it.” With that, he shoved the guy into a table, and turned to Nesta. “Come on, I’ll take you home.”
Part 5: Before We Drift Away (Nothing but Thieves)
Dizzy and shaken, Nesta let Cassian guide her through the crowd to the exit. Once they were outside in the cool night air, he pulled her aside, gaze dark.
“Did he hurt you?”
“No.”
“Did he force you to drink whatever was in that cup?”
“No.”
His eyes closed and relief flooded across his face. “Good. God, some people are fucked up. I don’t know what I would have done if he had drugged you, or taken you away, or...” He trailed off, leaving anything further than that unsaid.
They were silent for a minute. Nesta looked up at him, a bit of worry still etched across his features. “Why?”
“Why what?”
“Why do you care so much?”
He looked over to her, something strange in his expression that Nesta couldn’t place. “I don’t know. You’re a human being, and your safety was left in my hands.” He paused and looked away. “If I’m being honest, when I saw that guy put his hands on you... I don’t know. Something flipped inside me.” At that moment he looked down to her bare shoulders, noticing that she was beginning to shiver. “You’re cold,” he said softly. “Here, take this.” He removed his jacket and draped it over her shoulders, even when she protested.
Nesta frowned as she gave in and pulled his jacket tightly around her, annoyed at the way her body betrayed her. “I don’t need protection. I’ve lived a long time without people to care about me.” She started walking toward the parking lot, and he followed.
“You shouldn’t have to live like that, Nesta. You’ve been pushing me away all night, but listen to me – don’t you understand? I’m not just talking to you because I’m bored. I don’t smile at you as a game, as if you’re some prize for me to win. Can’t you see by now that I’m doing literally everything I can just to stay by your side? Damn it, I asked Feyre to pair us together at the party.”
Nesta had stopped walking and was speechless for once.
Cassian stepped closer tentatively, as though she’d back away. He ran a finger over Nesta’s wrist and looked up to the sky. “Please, just don’t make me say anything else completely insane. I promise I’m not in the habit of sharing intense moments with perfect strangers.”
A rush of anger coursed through Nesta, and she shoved him back. “Don’t,” she said. “Don’t talk to me like that. Despite what you must think, I’m not an idiot. I’m not naive. I am well aware that this is all a favor to my sister. Stay with my lame, antisocial sister. It might be fun, right?” She paused, any restraint she had used earlier having completely abandoned her.
“That’s not what I think at all, Nes-”
“Fuck you, Cassian.” She shoved him again, more aggressively this time.
Cassian caught her wrists and pulled her closer. “Try that again.”
Nesta glared. “Bite me,” she spit out.
“Maybe I will.”
And as though drawn to her by some gravitational force, Cassian’s mouth came crashing down onto hers. He wrapped his arms around her waist, seeming to lift her off her feet. Nesta’s bare skin burned where Cassian touched her, and she pushed back against his touch to gain control. Everything, every thought was fading to nothing. Biting down on his lip drew out a low groan from Cassian, and Nesta broke free.
Cassian put his hands up as though to make a barrier between them, as though he wouldn’t be able to control himself without it.
“So much for being the only man with self-control,” Nesta said. Cassian just shook his head, earning a light snort from Nesta. “I shut everyone out--even pretty jocks like you. Don’t take it personally. It’s just easier.”
Cassian smiled his easy smile, and he reached up to touch his lips with a thumb. “You think I’m pretty?”
Nesta scoffed. “The prettiest.”
He stood there for a moment, just smiling at her, before turning back toward the parking lot. “Okay, princess, allow me to introduce you to the pinnacle of after-party activities.”
Nesta raised a brow, and Cassian let out a bark of laughter.
“Get your mind out of the gutter. I’m talking about pancakes.”
She looked skeptical. “Pancakes?”
“Yes. And after the night you had, you deserve an entire plate of them.” Cassian reached out to her with his big, warm hand, and Nesta hesitated.
“Cassian-” She started warily.
“Hey – I’m not asking you to marry me, it’s just pancakes.”
Nesta waited a moment more, then took his hand. “Fine. But I’m not sharing the chocolate sauce.”
“I wouldn’t dare ask you to. Besides, you already know how I feel about sharing.”
Nesta smiled a bit. “Hey Cassian?
“Yes Nesta?”
“Thank you.”
“Anytime.”

I’ma say this, I tried to make a banner for this...it ain’t work out so well lol. So I’ma just do banners when it’s really big and important, just pretend there’s a Yoongi with yellow eyes and fangs
right here! In this area. This is gonna be my lil fancy banner placeholder. I’m mostl ikely never going to make one...
It has been...a week or maybe two, possibly three I don’t know. Girl, quarantine had me thinking it was June already, don’t judge me. Don’t ask me where I’ve been I have no clue myself.
ALSO BE SURE TO CHECK OUT MY MASTERLIST!
Update: GOT A NAME FOR THIS SHIT, HA!
Leggo!
Disclaimer- VIOLENCE... Also slight religious references but not heavy.
Also I took inspiration from Easton and Emmary Audio. They are on soundcloud and youtube and amazing af...like legit yas.
...
You could only scream as you were thrown down the stairs by the a few men. You tumbled down the steps yelping in pain as you hit the floor. You quickly scrambled to your feet, trying to stumble up the stairs. To your dismay, the door was locked from the outside, which meant you were trapped. Screwed for lack of a better term.
“LET ME OUT!” you yelled, banging on the door. “PLEASE!” you could feel your heart rate pick up quickly. Anxiety filled your body as you were welcomed by silence. “Please...” You attempted to yank at the door knob but it never budged. All you could remember was being grabbed by someone and dragged off. In a mix of emotions you could only guess what was going on. You were chosen as a sacrifice. To the beast...
Every month, a random person would go missing. You had only assumed it to be a myth made up by the older townspeople to get women to be safe at night, or not walk home alone, you were very wrong. The more people went missing, the more you became a believer.
It was a rule, never be seen, never be caught alone, never be caught at night, and especially not on a full moon like tonight. The Cursed Moon as your elders called it. There was a huge rumor about a beast that dwelled in a prison. It was captured by the town’s pastor. Pastor Bower believed that if he kept the monster prisoner and fed it, then that would atone for all the sins of the other beasts. No one said anything, mostly because they didn’t want to be next. You were never one for myths or the supernatural, but you were interested nonetheless. Only now, being the next sacrifice to tame whatever beast resided within these these walls left you wishing you were more ignorant.
A low growl erupted from the shadows where the light refused to hit. It seemed to be echoing from all around the tiny room. The windows were completely boarded up.
“I smell human.” a low gurgling voice made you slap a hand over your mouth. You desperately prayed from someone to get you out of this situation. Suddenly, you heard the rattling of chains.
A man emerged from the heavily shadowed corner. You could see the chain dragging behind him with every step he took. They were long, probably long enough to allow his to walk across the room, but not long enough to make it to the stairs all the way. His shirt was tattered, just barely hanging off his shoulders. His hair was a mess, sticking out in random directions. His hair was jet black, which contrasted against his pale porcelain skin.  His raised his head to stare at you. All you could detect was a pair of neon red eyes.
“Hm...” he chuckled lowly. “Are you gonna make this easy for me or are you gonna be a fool and try and run.”
“You stay away from me.” you warned. “I’m warning you!” you voice cracked dramatically. You sounded far from intimidating.
“Hm, I see they bought me a talkative one...I can tell you’re gonna be difficult to handle. Word of advice: bravery is for the foolish. Nothing good has come from trying to be.”
You could hear rustling outside the door and it became obvious that this was a horrific reality and not a nightmare. Not realizing how narrow the steps were, you missed your footing and began tumbling down the stairs again. you crashed on the floor, more pain rushing to your sides than before. You had no desire to try and get up. Your next few minutes were numbered it seemed like.
“Are you stupid?” the man laughed. “It’s almost sad what I’m about to do.” You could only cover your face with your hands, turning on your side. You didn’t want to die, you especially didn’t want to die as a monthly ritual. You silently prayed for something, anything, to get you out of this mess. Dear lord, please let something help you.
Wait
You heard a low whisper like voice which caught you by surprise. You didn’t breathe, you had to make sure you weren’t just hearing things.
“What?” an annoyed voice replied.
This one...she’s different.
You remained quiet as the man had a conversation with...himself?
“You...look at me.” he barked at you.
Deciding you didn’t want this to end painfully, you moved your hands from your face, confusion very evident in your eyes. The stranger crouched down in front of you, narrowing his eyes at you. He moved his hair out of his face to get a better look at you. As soon as you met his eyes, your expression went blank. You were sure he could see your glossed over eyes from the tears threatening to fall. His expression went from angered to...content? His lips slightly parted as if he hit a temendous realization.
“Oh....” he whispered to himself. “It’s you.” He suddenly began playing with his hands, like he didn’t know whether to reach out or keep them to himself.
You were shaking and scared. You hadn’t realized you had begun to cry from fright. “W-what? Me?”
Before you could register anything, the man grumbled with laughter. He raised his hand and before you could flinch, caught your tears on his thumb. His skin was hot, hotter that normal.
“Hm, well I didn’t expect this to happen.” the man chuckled under his breath. “Come on now, don’t cry.”
“What?” now you were very confused. “Wait-”
“I’m not going to kill you.”
“You’re not?” you were taken aback. “I mean that’s great and all, but-” what caused him to change his mind so quickly?
“You’re thinking why? Why did I change my mind so suddenly?” he cut you off with a glint of a smile. “A wolf never harms his mate.”
Wait...mate? Did he say mate? Like as is lovers? Soulmates. You were just trying to make sure. Like did you really just hear him say the word...mate? (Oh my god you dumb ass yes he said mate! Does he need to spell it out?)
“Mate?” you repeated your thoughts out loud. “But I’m not-”
“Ah, Ah ,Ah...but you are, Babygirl. The second we laid eyes on eachother. We knew...we just knew.” he wiped more tears from your face. It would have been more assuring if you weren’t in the current situation you were in.
“We?” you had a bad habit or repeating yourself today.
“The wolf, I call him Suga.” he explained. “I’ll have to go into depth later on, but for now. What’s your name?”
Do tell us won’t you?
“My name is...Y/N.” you replied. “That voice. Who is-”
“That would be Suga.” he replied with a laugh. “Don’t mind him, he’s just a pain in the ass. You’ll learn to block him out like I do. Ignore him, he doesn’t provide any substance to any conversation.”
Hey, she’s my mate too.
“And she’ll get to know you when it’s your turn.” he snapped to his wolf. You were left in a heap on confusion. “Would you like to stand or are you more comfortable on the floor?” his gaze on you softened.  He held his hand out for you to take. You then grabbed his hand and heaved yourself up. He followed up in pursuit, standing up as well.
You awkwardly shifted on the balls of your feet. You didn’t know what to say.
Cat got your tongue?
“Um..no.” you dumbly replied. “I’m j-just...You know if this hadn’t happened I would have been literally dog food right?”
“ I’m not sure if that was a pun or not, but I understand.” Yoongi smiled sideways. “One minute you were bought here as a sacrifice and the next-” he cut himself off. “I’ll be honest, I didn’t expect this myself. It’s the last thing I expected, being stuck down here for so long.”
“Right.” you mumbled.
“You see, it doesn’t matter anymore.” he smirked. “Because you’re mine, and I’m yours.” he chuckled. “Forever” He stared down at you. “You feel it too, I can tell.”
“Why did they trap you down here?” you asked, in desperation to change the subject. “If I can ask.”
“Hm, well people don’t take to kindly to my type anymore. Maybe in the 1800s where they thought we could grant wishes, but not so much anymore.” he shrugged. “I could ask you the same question, Babydoll. Not that I’m not thrilled to have you in my presence.”
“...I was walking home after I had walked my friend back to her house. Next thing I know I was grabbed from behind and then-”
So you were unlucky.
“Seems like it.” Yoongi answered for his wolf. “Fate has strange ways of working doesn’t it?
“Yeah.” you replied.
“...Hm, well I don’t see a reason I should have to dwell here any longer.” Yoongi hummed. “You must be aching to leave as well. I don’t suppose you know how to pick a lock?”
“You let yourself stay here?”
“Not like I have a pack to follow.” he shrugged.
“Well, I don’t know. I’ve never tried.” you answered. “You can’t just break the chains?”
“They’re indestructible, Princess.” he shrugged. “We’ve tried everything.”
By now, the idiots that trapped me down here will have come to collect the dead body that should be lying before me. I wonder how they’re going to react when they realize.
Before you could react, the door swung open.
Hide, Princess. Under the stairs.
You instantly ducked behind the steps, as he instructed. You definitely didn’t need to be told twice. You listened as the back and forth between Yoongi and whoever had just entered occured.
“Come to visit me, Mr. Bower?”
“Quiet, demon! You’ve gotten your sacrifice-...W-where’s the body?”
“I have no clue what you’re talking about.” he replied.
“The body! There should be-” the old man stared around the room. He apparently couldn’t see you, but you could see him. You noticed there was something shiny hanging off his belt. A key? You narrowed your eyes to try to make you the mystery object.
What’s wrong, Princess?
Yoongi looked over this Mr. Bower’s shoulder to glance at you just as he heard his wolf speak. You could only mouth “key” under your breath. You pointed to where you wanted him to look. The key stuck out like a sore thumb. If you had moved to abruptly, you probably would have been seen. The good thing about him, was that he could see in even the darkest of places so he understood perfectly.
“Feel free to look around. I forget sometimes.” Yoongi took a few steps back.
Mr. Bower began to walk into a random corner of the room, his back turned towards the both of you. Suddenly, The roots of Yoongi’s hair began turning whitish-blue. A iridescent silver color. It traveled down the the very tips of his hair. You stood in amazement, wondering what he was doing. His hair morphed from black to a shiny silver.
What was happening?
I’d turn away if I were you.
He didn’t need to ask again. You practically slapped yourself in the face trying to cover your eyes.
“No, NO!”
There was an echo of screaming and crying. You could just picture it.  All these sounds whizzed around in your head. It was vulgar and scary. Not to mention the most disgusting thing you’ve ever heard in your life. You could hear the man you had just met unleashing his fury on Bower.
Suddenly it was silent. Enough to where you could hear a pin drop. You felt a gentle hand on your shoulder.
It’s over sweetheart.
You moved your hands from your face, now covering your cheeks. Call it childish, but it treated like a shield to you. You didn’t dare look over Yoongi’s shoulder. You could see the pool of blood.
“D-did you get the key?” you stammered.
“Right here?” he held the key in a his hands. “Would you like to to the honors?”
“S-sure.” you weren’t sure how you mustered the wits to grabbed the blood stained key from him, but you did. You unshackled his hands first, then his ankles.
“Thanks.” Yoongi sighed.
“No p-problem.” you replied breathlessly. “Um...So what now?” You dropped the key and let your arms rest at your sides.
“Well...we should probably leave. I’m a rogue, I just killed the town’s most loved man. It might be a good idea for us to skip town all together.”
“Us?” you repeated.
“Yeah, Us. You’re the only witness and namely the first and only human to ever survive a full moon with a werewolf. A rogue, packless one at that.”
Plus, why would we ever leave without our mate.
You blinked a few times, still mulling everything over in your head. Leave town? With a man you just met? Who tried to kill you not even ten minutes ago?
“It’s scary I know, but we’re in danger here. That man has followers, followers who would kill you first and ask questions later. if they found out you survived, they would think you had someone to do with that scumbag’s death.”
“I d-don’t know.” you shook your head. “I-”
“I want to protect you but you have to let me.” he held out his hands. His hair was slowly started to fade back into that pitch black color. “Y/N, please.” he almost whimpered. He almost sounded like a dog. Ha...dog humor.
To be honest, nothing was keeping you their. The town that was supposed to make you feel safe had turned on you, other women too. How long would it be before another defenseless creature was caught, forced to go insane behind the walls of a smelly basement.
“Okay.” you agreed.
“I don’t think you know how relieved I am.” he sighed with relief. “Come on, we have to go before someone else comes.” he ushered you over to one of the windows. “Better make this fast.” he mumbled before hauling his fist at the surprisingly fragile boards. The window collapsed, wood and glass seeming exploding. “Shit! That might have been too loud.”
“Really?” you mused sarcastically. “You just punched out a boarded window!”
While you’re very cute princess, that isn’t exactly helping out.
“I fell down the stairs twice. I’ve earned the right to- AAGH!”
Yoongi had somehow grabbed your wrist and pulled your to his chest. It took a split second to notice your feet weren’t on the ground anymore.
“Hang on, babe!”
“Wait, what are you-OH MY GOSH WE’RE GONNA DIE!” Yoongi hand climbed up the wall and jumped out the window. The cold air hit your skin. Yoongi practically glided through the air.
Are you always like this?
“Only when met by situations like this.” you mumbled in reply. Yoongi landed on his feet and set you down. “Woah, it’s been months since I’ve been free.”
“How does it feel?”
“....It feels beautiful.” he sighed with content. “I feel alive again...plus I have you so it’s better.” his face turned serious. “Sweetheart, I meant what I said. We’re in danger if we stay here any longer than needed. I know you might not want to leave...but for your sake and mine. I can’t stay here, to many townspeople know my face, and by now they know that you were supposed to be my sacrifice.”
“Oh...That’s bad, isn’t it.” your insides twisted.
“Very. So I need to say this now before we get too far. Don’t do anything I don’t tell you. Listen when I say something. If I’m about to die you need to run, I’ll be fine you don’t worry about me. and most importantly...”
Your life comes before mine...That means I protect you until the day I stop breathing.
“Do you understand?” his eyes bore into yours. This whole mates thing was heavy, but serious.
“Yes.”
“Good. Now come on. We shouldn’t hang around here any longer.”

𝔴𝔞𝔫𝔱𝔢𝔡 𝔠𝔬𝔫𝔫𝔢𝔠𝔱𝔦𝔬𝔫𝔰 𝔣𝔬𝔯 𝔧𝔞𝔡𝔢𝔫 𝔧𝔞𝔪𝔢𝔰𝔬𝔫 .
hi ! pretend like you don’t see the lack of graphic ok, something super sick is up there ok . jaden is in dire need of a buddy y’all . a theme of misdirection is common in these, as well as mentions of jaden’s affair (which i have not brought up much due to the fact that ... it just didn’t come up and i hadn’t fully fleshed out the ta as an npc) with theatre ta and garnet alum hudson evans . everything can definitely be changed around to fit anything, i don’t mind ! also if you’d like to just plot something basic, or further flesh out an original plot please let me know ! ok thanks bye -- @opalsmedia

what if my dream does not happen? / would i just change what i've told my friends? / i don't want to know who i would be / when i wake up from a dreamer's sleep / i need to know / that when i fail you'll still be here
WITH MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S around the corner, jaden is feeling uncharacteristically less than. normally, theatre is an escape for them, a activity that they don’t even need to think about, but here recently the weight of the society is taking over their mind. everything feels weird. the air around the manor is eerie, almost like everyone is keeping a secret and jaden is on the outside. the prodigies are busying themselves with opals, and with each other, jaden unsure of where they’re supposed to be going. on one hand, what happens if they’re that one prodigy that doesn’t fully make it? what if they let dante down? on the other, what happens if they just can’t find joy in the theatre anymore? what if they flunk out of strathmore and are forced to pick something else? who is going to catch them now that august is gone?
YOUR MUSE CAN sense a shift in jaden, something is off - which may not be so unusual, but it's apparent enough to raise eyebrows. they’re a lending arm to take their mind somewhere that isn't the worst possible scenario. coffee breaks, movie dates, and picnics help take jadens mind off of the weight of the world and their situation, and your muse’s shoulder is always there to lend advice and help push them out of the rutt they’ve found themselves in. your muse is kind, a light at the end of a tunnel.
clementine halsey . open to all .
i don't need anyone / i don't need anyone / i just need everyone and then some
THEN: jaden and your muse weren't fast friends. however, the disgusting amounts of school projects meant they spent so much time together that honestly, they were just tired of looking at them. at first glance, they were into lace and love and rosé (or something opposite obviously). jaden was into leather and cigarettes and jack on the rocks. it was hard to find trust in them, to find a confidant that they could bring their walls down for and believe in their gut that they wouldn't leave. because not everyone leaves. right? their ability to know precisely what jaden thinks before they can get the words out made them a perfect match, the best of friends. your muse knew exactly when jaden's heart rate was rising, when they were getting too worked up for their own good, and knew how to calm them down. because of them, jaden learns to ask for help when and if they need it, rather than keeping to themselves and figuring everything out on their own. your muse is the first person jaden tells about hudson, about their affair. they were intoxicated, enough that they didn't realize what they were saying. now the cat is out of the bag, and things are weird, to say the least. they could see the casual looks your muse was giving hudson in the hallways, the strange silences when they talked about him or when your muse found out they were heading to his place for the night. they didn't think anything of it, they couldn't. they were happy.
NOW: it’s common knowledge that hudson was a garnet only a few years prior. it’s common knowledge and it’s not necessarily knowledge that jaden would like for your muse to hold on to. hudson’s place in the society makes things even more uncomfortable for jaden and you can feel the relationship straining. what once was an inseparable bond has turned into missed calls, only catching the back of jaden’s hair before they’re out of sight, and lonely walks back to the dorms from the library every night. meanwhile, on jaden’s end, they’re struggling hard with the fact that hollis knows about hudson, they can’t find their place with the rest of the circlet let alone the society as a whole, and they’re backsliding in their classes as well. jaden’s not going to admit to needing help, but you know that they do without having to ask.
forever ... is a long time halsey . open to prodigies ig otherwise it’s against the rules, no?
build love, build god, build provinces / build calluses, break promises / cause i could never hold a perfect thing and not demolish it …
THEN: they were the first relationship jaden partook in post rehab, and really, post august. it was hard. everything is rocky, they were one thing and then another. they were happy, but then everything was wrong. they were so innocent. so fucking kind and sweet. in the beginning, it bothered jaden, everything about loving them and wanting to be around them, bothered jaden. why couldn't they turn off that light? they knew they would get hurt. but their fucking smile… and maybe that's why jaden ran to the hudson in the first place. to be the one to hurt, and not get hurt. to be with someone that couldn't possibly break their heart because they would never get attached? turns out, they still got attached.
NOW: it's weird confiding in your muse post hudson. things felt normal, but they definitely weren't. they're using your muse as a shield, a security blanket almost. jaden can pretend things are normal in public if they still have their hand to hold. it was rocky, the first few months after the hudson debacle. but eventually, finding the friendship they had in one another made things comfortable. it was a new normal for them; stolen kisses, late-night fights ending in each other's arms. they were easy before, and now it was as if they were the secret.
hand me downs mac miller . closed eliot rivera.
when i'm stuck between a rock and a hard place / walk and drop in change inside your empty guitar case / that's charity um, i move carelessly that's why i'm always tripping / i guess that's like electrolytes you help me go the distance
JADEN HAS VIEWED the society like a sort of joke since the beginning, but now, things are getting exceedingly more interesting. tying a bunch of second years to statues? that’s real shit. however with that said, they’re stuck. what is the point of the society? where are they supposed to be going? what is the goal that they had in mind with all of this?
YOUR MUSE IS a mentor to jaden, helping them navigate through the society in a way that makes everything click for them. it feels forced in the beginning, maybe it’s the product of an informal or another task, and they aren’t opening up as much as they could be. they’re shy, afraid of the unknown, but eventually become willing to let your muse in.
ik i left this one kind of sparse… but i feel like it speaks for itself lol

Tumblr media
Outside a school, on a beautiful, sunny day, a group of kids stood huddled on the road. In between them, a young girl lay curled on the street. The kids were kicking her, shouting mean things at her, and laughing at her tears. No one came to rescue the girl for a while.
Then the most miraculous thing happened. Another little girl came over, pushing past the circle of little heathens. She pushed them away, yelling at them and threatening to get the teachers. The kids sneered at this brave girl before running off to torment some other kid. The girl turned to the crying girl who was still in the fetal position.
“They’re gone,” she said. The girl quieted her sobbing, peering up at her hero. The second girl held her hand out for her. “You don’t have to worry about them. They’re just big babies. I’m Y/N.” Y/N helped the girl to her feet.
“I’m--I’m Jeongyeon.” Y/N gave Jeongyeon a toothy grin.
“You’re my friend now Jeongyeon. I’ll always be here to stop you from being bullied.” Y/N wrapped her short arm around Jeongyeon, waltzing her back to the school.
That was how Y/N and Jeongyeon became good friends. Of course, the bullying never stopped. The kids still picked on Jeongyeon, but they did it in class since Y/N was an older student. At first Jeongyeon tried to report them, but the students held too much sway over the school. She soon just let it happen, growing numb to it as time went on. Y/N still stood up for her, telling the snot-nosed brats to leave her alone, but that didn’t help anything.
Life really took a sharp curve when Y/N graduated and went on to college. Sure she was still around, but Jeongyeon’s school protector was gone. Now hell’s gates were open. Jeongyeon was walking in the high school when a gang of kids appeared out of nowhere. They quickly surrounded her, pushing her against a nearby locker.
“Awww, where’s your little guard dog now?” they taunted. Jeongyeon said nothing, keeping her eyes trained on the floor.
“What? Are you too good to talk to us?” another snipped, shoving her back into the locker. Jeongyeon still said nothing, waiting for this hellish nightmare to be over.
“I think this stuck-up bitch needs a lesson.”
And just like all those years ago, they attacked her. They punched, kicked, and called her awful names. They shoved her against the lockers and even threw her on to the floor. They continued their assault until the bell rang. Then they scattered like rats, leaving Jeongyeon in a heap on the hallway floor.
Heaving herself up, she limped out of the school, teachers and students staring at her like she was some circus freak. She could taste blood in her mouth as she walked home. She wouldn’t be surprised if she had some broken bones. Those bullies hadn’t held back in their assault. She limped home, offering her mother a quick notice of her arrival before locking herself away in her room.
She slid down onto the floor, letting her head rest against her door. Silent tears flowed down her face as the pain and trauma kicked in all at once. She wrapped her arms around her throbbing sides, closing her eyes as tears flowed out of her like a river after rain. After some time had passed, she went to relax on her bed, too emotionally drained to do much else other than sleep. Thank god it was the weekend.
The next morning, Jeongyeon washed away yesterday’s pain with a nice, hot shower. Looking in the mirror, she saw she had a busted lip and a blackeye. She sighed, drying her hair and getting dressed. She made her way to the kitchen where her mother was making breakfast.
Her mother did a double take when she sat down. She let out a tired sigh, handing her daughter a plate of food. She grabbed herself a cup of coffee. She sat down across from Jeongyeon, watching as she tried not to shovel her food.
“Oh baby, I wish you would let me help,” she said. Jeongyeon let her fork clatter against her plate. She glanced up at her mother, a scowl on her face.
“I told you--” Jeongyeon said-- “you’ll only make matters worse.”
“Honey, things have gotten worse. I checked on you after you went to sleep. You’ve never come home like that. Sweetheart, I’m worried, and if you won’t let me help, then at least heed my advice. Be kind. There is no better way to kill the awfulness and cruelty of the world than with kindness.” Jeongyeon paused momentarily to look up at her mother before she continued eating.
Later that day, Y/N came by for a surprise visit. Jeongyeon gave her a big hug, being wary of her still sore side. Y/N let out a groan, giving Jeongyeon a pointed look. Jeongyeon gave her a half smile.
“Are those assholes still bothering you? Why didn’t you tell me?” Y/N asked. Jeongyeon shrugged.
“I’m not a baby anymore I can handle my own problems,” Jeongyeon said. Y/N gave her a rueful smile.
“It doesn’t mean you have to.” Y/N let out a deep sigh. “But if you’re going to, then I suggest standing up for yourself. Show them you’re not someone to be messed with,” Y/N suggested. Jeongyeon nodded. “Good, now come on. I haven’t seen you in forever.” Y/N dragged Jeongyeon to her room where they spent the rest of the weekend having girl time.
The weekend ended much sooner than Jeongyeon would have liked. Putting on her uniform, she trudged her way to school. She walked slower than usual, not caring if she was late as long as she wasn’t early. On the way, however, she came across a little old lady sitting on the side of the road. Next to her was a box full of wooden marionettes.
“Ma’am,” Jeongyeon called. “Are you alright?” The old woman smiled, waving her over. Not wanting to go to school, Jeongyeon approached the old woman. She gave her a kind smile, turning to Jeongyeon.
“I’m quite alright dear. You are the first person to ask me how I am,” the old woman said. She placed a hand over Jeongyeon’s. “My dear, most people think I’m crazy, but let me tell you this. For your kindness, may your heart be filled with unbridled courage. May those who treat you bad see that you are not someone to mess with. But, if you take this courage, and use it to mistreat others, you’ll find that you won’t be able to do much later.”
Jeongyeon nodded, quickly standing up and running to school. Surely she would be late by now, but as she approached the school yard, she found that, not only was she not late, she was actually early. She almost turned on her heel and ran, but it was too late. The bullies had already seen her.
“Well, look who decided to come back, and here we thought you wouldn’t show your face. We had a bet and everything. I don’t like losing bets.” The kid went to swing, but instead of taking, ike Jeongyeon usually did, she dodged. She dodged the entire attack. Everyone stared in shock. Even Jeongyeon.
A small crowd had gathered around Jeongyeon and the bully. The bully’s nostrils were flaring as they stared at Jeongyeon. The bully charged, swinging wildly, but each time Jeongyeon dodged effortlessly. The crowd was laughing, mocking the bully as they had done to Jeongyeon. And for the first time, in a long time, Jeongyeon felt happy. She felt empowered.
The next time the bully charged, not only did Jeongyeon dodge the attack, she threw a punch. A punch that landed square on the bully’s jaw. A punch that sent the bully to the ground. A punch that caused an uproar with the students as they hoisted her onto their shoulders, parading around the school yard and carrying her into the building. She was now on a new pedestal.
When she went home that day, she was in the best mood she’d been in since she and Y/N had become friends. Her mother noticed her change too. When her she heard her daughter laughing and saw her smiling, her heart burst with joy. Her daughter was happy, and she couldn’t want anything more.
The joy in their home grew ten-fold when Y/N came over. Jeongyeon told her what happened, and in an ecstatic state, Y/N kissed Jeongyeon. Everyone was happy then, giving cheers and celebration for Jeongyeon.
Sadly, the happiness was short-lived. Because the bullies had so much pull, they had the principal expel Jeongyeon for fighting. Her family went and tried to argue, but it was futile. Angry and upset, Jeongyeon stormed out of the house, not really sure where she was going.
She kept walking and walking until she reached the rich neighborhood. Expensive cars sat in the driveways of massive mansions. Their fresh and neatly cut grass was littered with controversal, political pickets and stupid little lawn knomes. She continued to walk down their perfect little road until she came to one house in particular.
She glanced up to the second floor, to the only room with a light on. In the room sat the toughest guy and the prettiest girl in school. She shoved her hands into her pocket, staring at them through narrowed eyes. They were acting just like you would expect, fondling each other like a bunch of hormonal teenagers.
The girl noticed Jeongyeon, frantically pointing at her. The guy made eye contact with Jeongyeon, trying to shoo her away. Jeongyeon glanced down at the door before looking back at the pair with an arched brow. The girl was beginning to panic and shoving the guy. Jeongyeon took a step towards the door.
The guy made quick work and climbed out of the window, marching towards Jeongyeon like and angered bull. She dodged his punch, throwing one of her own. It landed square on his jaw, sending him spiraling to the ground. He clutched it agony, letting out a low groan. She didn’t stop. She continued her violent attack.Throwing one punch after another. Soon her knuckles were a bloody mess, but she didn’t care.
She stood, shaking her hand. It was throbbing and bruised and bloody, but none of that mattered. Jeongyeon felt better. She felt more than better. She couldn’t put it into words, but she had to get home. As quickly as possible, and with help from a stranded bike, she got home a lot faster.
She climbed to her window, quietly slipping in. Her lights turned on, revealing Y/N in her doorway. Her arms were crossed over her chest as she stared at Jeongyeon.
“Where did you go?” she asked. Jeongyeon didn’t answer. Instead, she took three strides towards Y/N before crashing their lips together. She gripped her shirt, pulling her into her room. She closed and locked the door then turned back to Y/N. She pushed her onto the bed, crawling between her legs. They spent the night wrapped in each other’s arms and sheets.
The next morning, Y/N was gone when Jeongyeon woke up. Stretching, images of the previous night flashed through her mind, making her smile. That was until her hand brushed against the wall. She flinched, her hand was still sore from last night.
Quickly and carefully, she got dressed slipping downstairs to find some ice. Her mother was on the phone, angrily yelling at what she presumed to be the school. Not paying much mind, she grabbed a cup of orange juice and a bag of ice. She watched as her mother hung up the phone, slamming it down.
Her mother turned to her, a soft look on her face. Jeongyeon gave her a tired smile. Her mother glanced down at her hand before doing a double take. She stared at it with a sort of blank stare.
“What happened there?” her mother asked. Jeongyeon looked down at her hand, offering a shrug.
“Probably hit a tree or a pole last night,” Jeongyeon said. Her mother nodded, tearing her eyes away from her daughter’s hand. “Well, I’m going to go for a walk. I’ll see you later. Love you!” She didn’t wait for her mother’s response as she ran out the door.
As she was walking around town, she ran into the baddest kids in the school. They weren’t mean, but they were known for their brawls. Jeongyeon watched as they approached her, cigarettes dangling from their lips. Their leader stepped forward, a smirk on his lips.
“We saw you beat up that asshole a couple days ago,” he began. “I have to say, that was impressive. We didn’t think you’d last five seconds, yet you beat the poor bastard up.” Jeongyeon nodded, briefly scanning over the other kids. “Don’t worry kid, we’re not here to pick a fight. We actually wanted to invite you to join our little gang.”
“Join you guys?” Jeongyeon asked surprised. The leader shrugged.
“Why not? You’ve got moxie kid, and I like it.” Jeongyeon thought about it, the idea tempting. “We can get you back into the school. I’m sure it would make your parents happy.” Jeongyeon nodded.
“Alright. You have a deal,” Jeongyeon said bowing. The leader smirked, slightly bowing back.
Jeongyeon went back home immediately to tell her mother the good news. At first her mother was excited, but then she asked how she knew. And when Jeongyeon told her mother exactly how, her cheerful demeanor dimmed.
“Are you sure that’s a good idea?” her mother asked. Jeongyeon cocked her head to the side.
“Why wouldn’t it be? Do you not want me to go back to school?” she inquired.
“Of course I want you to go to school. But I don’t know if you should be hanging out with people like that.” Jeongyeon frowned.
“I’m finally being accepted and you want me to give that up? Because of a stupid reputation? No. I won’t. You can’t make me.” Jeongyeon ran up to her room, slamming her door and locking it.
For a bit, nothing exciting happened. Jeongyeon returned to school where everyone was just as they’d always been, but they just didn’t make fun of her. She was beginning to think the gang had ditched her when they showed up at the school after the dismissal bell.
“Hey kid, we have a little initiation for you. Nothing serious, but it’s kind of mandatory. Protocall if you will,” the leader said. Jeongyeon nodded, following them down the road. They lead her to the bank. Sun was setting, painting the sky in soft purples and dark reds. “Okay kid, it’s real simple. All you have to do is add something to the wall. Preferably something thought provoking or funny.” One of the members tossed her a spray paint can.
“On the bank wall?” she inquired. They all nodded, taking a couple steps back. She thought about it for a second before an idea hit her. As quickly as she could, she began spraying her message. When she was done, the sun had set completely and all she had was the gang’s flashlights and the street lamps. She stepped back, tossing the can to a member. The leader stepped forward, reading the message out loud.
“‘I’m not saying don’t trust the government, I’m just saying don’t believe Capitalist propaganda’.” He nodded, turning to Jeongyeon. “Not bad kid. Welcome to the gang.” They walked her home, making sure she made it inside before disappearing into the night. She gave her mom a greeting before she went to her room.
On her bed, sat Y/N. Immediately Jeongyeon brightened up. She sat next to Y/N wrapping her arms around her. Y/N didn’t make any move. Sitting back, Jeongyeon stared at Y/N.
“Hey, what’s wrong?” Jeongyeon asked. Y/N inhaled deeply.
“I saw what you did,” Y/N said. Jeongyeon stared at her confused. “At the bank. I saw what you did when I was on my way to see you.” Y/N turned to look at Jeongyeon. “Why would you do that?”
“It’s nothing serious--”
“You defaced government property! That’s a serious offense Jeongyeon!”
“It was just a little initiation. Calm down.”
“Sure, that’s what it is now. But soon it’s going to get bigger and bigger, and then you’re in jail. Or worse, you’re dead in a ditch somewhere!”
“You’re making this out to be bigger than it needs to be,” Jeongyeon said, an edge in her voice.
“Because I need you to understand you’re going down a dark path, and if you get too far you may not be saved,” Y/N argued. Jeongyeon stared at her.
“Are you saying you wouldn’t save me?”
“Now you’re putting words in my mouth.”
“And you’re accusing me of things I haven’t done. I thought you were here because you wanted to be with me, but if all you’re going to do is lecture me, then just leave.” Y/N said nothing for a few minutes before standing up and moving towards the door. She paused briefly, glancing back at Jeongyeon.
“I wanted to be with the you I knew before. I don’t know who you are anymore.” She left and in a fit of anger, Jeongyeon punched her wall, effectively putting a hole in it. Nostrils flaring and blood boiling, she left her house through her window. She needed to clear her head before she did something irrational.
But irrationality won. She ended up vandalizing nearby stores, smashing windows and spray painting walls. But it didn’t stop that night. She skipped school to smoke and cause chaos. She pushed people around, not caring who they were: children, adults, old people, mothers, fathers, lovers--especially lovers. She loathed them more than anyone. What right did they have to be happy when she was so miserable.
As her deeds grew darker, she found she was having some difficulty moving. Her body seemed to be going stiff. No matter what she did to alleviate the growing pain all over her body, nothing seemed to work.
One day she was walking down the road that led to her school when she spotted the old lady from months ago. How funny it was to think about that time. Things were so different. She was a frightful little mouse back then, but she had Y/N then. Y/N hadn’t spoken to her since that night. Sometimes, when the night was quiet and the gang wasn’t doing anything, Jeongyeon would walk by her house. Y/N was usually curled on her couch watching tv or reading a book. There were times when she would stand outside her door, hand raised to knock before she would turn and continue walking down the road.
She crossed the road to approach the old lady. She still had her little suitcase of marinette dolls. The old woman wasn’t smiling like she had before. In fact, she seemed to be void of all emotions.
“Ma’am, are you okay?” Jeongyeon asked. The little old woman slowly turned her head to stare into Jeongyeon’s eyes. Her gaze was intense and unwavering, sending Jeongyeon’s heart into a sort of panic frenzy.
“You used my courage to mistreat others,” she said. “Now you’ll find you can’t do much.” Jeongyeon stared at her confused. She glanced down at the lady’s hands. She was holding four pieces of string, like the ones on the marionettes. A sharp pain hit Jeongyeon in the arm. Looking down, she saw her arm was no longer flesh. Instead, it was becoming wood and was she shrinking.
Panicking, Jeongyeon stood up to run away, but then the sharp pain hit her legs. She fell face first into the road. Ignoring the pain, she tried to crawl away. but it was futile, she couldn’t move anymore. Her body was hard and stiff. Soon, she couldn’t even blink.
She felt someone pick her up and came face to face with the old woman. The old woman tied the strings to her before placing her next to other dolls. Oh what an awful fate. But kids who act like jackasses, don’t meet the same fate as those who act with kindness

takumi, gaius, henry, robin, & soren + summoner using their confession lines
anon asked: “I absolutely love this blog I'm so glad I found it!!! If at all possible can I have a summoner that has played the games using a characters confession line against them? Like with Takumi, Gaius, Henry, and any others that you like? Oh and what if the summoner creates ones for the characters who don’t have one like Grima/Robin, Alphonse, Corrin, Ect.”
a/n: y’all i am So Tired.... work is really Like That huh? OH and i got a kitten too recently!! we names her loki bc she’s v mischievous lmao --mod touko
also: i was rereading takumi’s confession line for this and i SCREAMED the japanese version he literally calls u sister i’m!!!! that is NOT okay sdkjhgfkfgjls
takumi:
you’ve known about his crush on you for the longest time, as it’s not really subtle. he always gets flustered whenever you get near him, yelling something about you distracting him in order to try and get you to not be so close to him. (it’s embarrassing to him for you to see him all flustered).
so, you decide to confess to him first, but, not knowing what to say, you decide to tease him a bit and use words you know he’s said to corrin in another lifetime. you grab both his hands, making him look you in the eyes while you say it.    + “if you were aiming for my heart, you’ve struck true... this was meant to be...”
takumi is quiet for a moment, before laughing. you’re confused, wondering if this is him rejecting you (even though you were sure he liked you... could you have been wrong?)     + “i’m sorry but that was kind of cheesy!” he says inbetween laughs, “is this how people confess in your world?” you just kind of... blank out and don’t have the heart to tell him that that is in fact his own line.       “you’re such a jerk takumi!” you jest, lightly punching him in the ribs. he ruffles your your hair, smirking down at you.      “yeah, but i’m your jerk.”      “oh c’mon that was worse than y- i mean, my line!”
gaius:
gaius aka “i have the cheesiest confession line ever” took a while to warm up to you (he’s very skeptical about forging bonds with people). he’s not the best in battle, but he is good at sneaking behind enemy lines and collecting intel for you, which is how the two of you became close. he even gave you a nickname -- “honey” because of your love of the sweet candies he makes. (it’s been misinterpreted by people many times).
one day, the two of you are talking about the worst romantic experiences you’ve ever had -- gaius’s was where he once thought frederick was into him because he wouldn’t stop following him around and staring at him, turns out the knight just thought he was going to break into the royal treasury.     + “well, once this guy confessed his love to me by saying “baby you’re a river of chocolate in an ocean of cream... i’m going to steal your heart on a daily basis.”      “...what’s wrong with that? it’s kind of sweet, i guess?”      “gaius what the heck that’s literally the cheesiest line in the entire world... seriously, you couldn’t have thought up anything... sweeter than that?”      “wait, what do you mean by “you”... did i say that when i was drunk or something???”
after you let that slip and explain to gaius that fire emblem is a game in your world he promises to write you up something 100x better than game gaius could ever think of. you highly doubt it.
henry:
henry seems to have taken a liking to you as you both quickly bonded over the sharing of very fatalistic humor (which some of the other heroes found very odd but they were too afraid of henry to point it out). the two of you had a mutual crush on each other, and you thought of no better way to confess than using his own words -- plus, it’d be funny to see his reaction.
you have the perfect opportunity when you see henry outside by himself, talking to a group of ravens. the raven stare menacingly at you as you get closer to the white-haired boy, but you don’t feel unnerved until he actual stands up and smiles at you, then you know what you have to do.    + “henry... i’ve been meaning to tell you something all day.” you nervously shift your weight from left to right. taking a deep breath, you swallow your pride and grab his hands, forcing yourself to look into his deep brown eyes. “i’ll love you with every ounce of my blood until i die...” silence. then you hear henry make a tut noise.       “aw rats! i was going to say that exact thing to you!” you see him pout, but you doubt he means it. “are you a psychic or something? c’mon tell me! if we’re gonna be together til death do us part, i’ve gotta know all your secrets... even the gross ones!”       “yes henry. i can read your mind. everyone in my world has a superpower, you know.” you joke, knowing he’ll take the bait.      “no way!! that is so cool! alright can you read my mind now?”      “you’re thinking that if you could have a superpower it would be necromancy, am i right?” he looks at you in awe.      “no way! no way! ooh, can we go read other people’s minds now! we can find out all their dark secrets... you’re really something special, babe!”
robin:
robin always offered to help you out with tactics. even when she was first summoned, she’d be by your side, helping you draw up routes and giving you advice on how to win the battle while also keeping everyone alive.
it didn’t take long for you to fall for her, hard. she was the full package: smart, sassy, gorgeous beyond belief... everything about her drew you in more, until one day you couldn’t take bottling up your feelings anymore, and you decide to tell her.     + “ah! summoner, just the girl/guy i wanted to see! i was wondering if you wanted to eat lunch with me? there’s this really pretty grove of flowers i saw outside and i was wondering if you wanted to see them with me?” she’s not wearing her thick tactician cloak and you can see just how beautiful she really is, dark skin, freckles littered all over her shoulders... she’s breathtaking. you feel your head start to spin. “...if you don’t want to do that we could always--”      “no! i-i’d love too! i just have to tell you something first...” she nods, insisting for you to go on, and you take a deep breath: “hm... it seems i’ve found myself in a situation where i must admit defeat. very well, my heart is yours.” robin flushes a bit at your odd confession, before laughing quietly to herself.      “i’m sorry, for a moment there i thought you were another version of me!” she puts a hand on your shoulder, “not the way i saw this going, but it was cute!” she leans up and pecks you on the cheek. “so, you want to get some lunch with me, dear?” the way she says the word makes you melt, and you can only answer with a quiet.      “mhm.”
soren:
soren and you have a rivalry of sorts, that started from the moment alfonse chose your plan over his. he sees you as a much inferior tactician, as he’s been studying his whole life and you’ve been studying for... well, as long as you’ve been in askr. he sees you as a hack running off luck.
it’s not until he goes to return a book late at night and sees you studying, eyes bloodshot and hardly able to stay awake that he realizes how hard you’re trying. he swallows his pride and sits down, asking about how you manage to come up with strategies despite having little to no knowledge on how the battlefield works. you perk up (as best as you can) and tell him how you come up with your strategies. he listens, and finds you not as insufferable as he once thought... maybe...
you know he has feelings for you. it’s evident how he sticks by your side, despite saying biting words towards you at times, he slowly but surely starts opening up to you. even ike (dense as he can be) seems to take notice, and teases his strategist about it.
of course, you know he won’t be the first one to confess because of how much of a tsundere he can be, so you take it into your own hands to tell him how you feel.    + “if you’ve come to pester me again, i’m busy.” he says curtly, but still moves over to where there was enough room for you to sit down. soren doesn’t look at you, but you can see a slight blush creep up on his cheeks.       “riiiiiight. so i’m guessing these week-old maps are keeping you busy? wait, is that a drawing of me in the corner?” he flusters immediately, ripping up the maps into little pieces. you chuckle, and he hisses, glaring at you as if to dare you to mention it again. you sit beside him on his work bench. “i came for a much different reason, i have to tell you how i feel--”      “why should i care about your feelings?      “because i like you. a lot.”      “just as you have to like everyone in the army. if that is all you can go now.” you would never have feelings for him, right?      “no, gods soren... do you want me to put it in words you can understand?” you put on your best impression of soren’s voice. “how did you do it? you’ve somehow... sorry, i should try and be nice since i-- i like you, okay? don’t make me say it again.” you giggle, “that’s how i think you would confess to someone, anyways.” you look at soren who’s completely flushed. he’s never had someone who liked him romantically before, heck, he’s only had one friend his whole life! what was he supposed to say?      “i guess the feeling is mutual.” he pouts, composing himself, “but that impression of me was gods-awful.”      “now that we’re dating, get used to hearing bad impressions alllllll day.” you link your pinky in his, and wink at him.      “now wait a minute!”

"5 Times the Love" Ranulf with whoever you want
5 times Ranulf fell in love
“You know something? You’re...”
“...I’m what?”
“Dumb.”
Ike was dumb. He was stupid, dumb, and Ranulf most certainly didn’t find it cute. But he was too much. He was so willing to trust Ranulf, a laguz he barely knew. Ike hadn’t even known laguz existed before he’d met Ranulf! Of course Ranulf hadn’t believed that in the slightest at first-- he had used the phrase sub-human so casually, as if he’d been taught all along that laguz were sub-human-- but his willingness to learn and to improve was unlike what Ranulf was used to in a beorc. It was...
It was charming.
“Hey, wait! Ranulf! Dang... Was that friendly advice or is he just angry?”
Ranulf could hear Ike calling after him, but he didn’t slow his pace. It was anger. It was certainly anger, but he couldn’t tell Ike that. Not anger at Ike, no; anger at himself. The hurt he’d seen in Ike’s eyes when he had asked “Don’t you trust me?” had struck a nerve with Ranulf. He hadn’t thought himself weak enough to fall for a beorc. He hadn’t thought himself weak enough to trust so easily. Even after everything Ike had done, Ranulf shouldn’t have trusted him.
And yet he did. Ike was stupid, he was careless with his words, and yet it was the most charming thing about him. He was genuine, true to himself in a way few beorc-- or laguz, for that matter-- had been. How could Ranulf not admire it? The reckless idealism that drove Ike... it was cute. It was infectious. It made Ranulf wish there were more Ikes in the world, and yet he wouldn’t have it any other way, because then Ike wouldn’t be half as special.
“Are you just going to lie there and watch me train?”
Ike dug the blunted tip of his training sword into the ground, leaning against the pommel as he turned to Ranulf. Sweat poured from his brow, his muscles ached, and his breathing was hard; by comparison, the massive blue cat was lying pleasantly in a sunbeam. Ranulf’s stomach was facing up at the sky, paws curled over his chest, and a low rumbling sound could be heard even from where Ike stood several yards away.
“Sure am.”
That was the only answer Ranulf gave. He would have flicked one of his ears to show his annoyance with Ike’s question, but they were currently pinned down underneath his head. He couldn’t be bothered to flip over just to make such a tiny gesture at Ike. Besides, he was fairly certain Ike didn’t even know his little movements meant anything.
“Don’t you have a job to do? You spend an awful lot of time here...”
“I’ll have you know I’m hard at work.”
“You don’t seem like it.”
The tip of Ranulf’s tail flicked in amusement as he finally rolled himself over, taking several moments to stretch before he slowly began walking towards Ike. The cat’s odd eyes stared deep into Ike’s blue ones, and, though his face wasn’t quite as expressive when he was a cat, it almost looked like Ranulf was smirking at Ike.
“I’m keeping an eye on you. You’re a national hero, you know.”
“Right. And what about the reconstruction of Crimea? Shouldn’t you be helping with that?”
“Technically, I’m gathering information. Shouldn’t you be helping with it, mister noble?”
“I’m not a noble.”
“You were appointed by the Queen herself.”
“I quit.”
Ranulf couldn’t stop himself from laughing at Ike’s answer. The quizzical look Ike shot Ranulf indicated that he hadn’t intended it as a joke, which, really, was precisely why it was so funny.
“You can’t just quit, Ike.”
“I did.”
“And they let you?”
“Well... yeah?”
Once again, Ranulf laughed. Ike had been handed a key to fixing the world, to instilling the ideals he wanted, and he turned it down. Only Ike would do that. No other beorc Ranulf had ever met would turn down nobility. Wasn’t that what every commoner strove for?
“Unbelievable.”
“What’s so funny?”
“You, Ike.”
“Oh.”
Silence. As if Ike had gotten used to Ranulf laughing at him. Or perhaps it was a mutual understanding between them; the laughter wasn’t mean-spirited. No, that was far from the case. Ranulf admired Ike. He adored the way Ike saw the world so simply. He’d never put it into words, but he’d never had to, or perhaps never wanted to. Ike was Ike. That was the way it was. It was that world view that Ranulf enjoyed so much.
“Well, if it isn’t mister big-shot mercenary.”
Ranulf practically purred the words, draping himself across the bed as Ike walked in. His tail flicked upwards in the air, waving a silent greeting to the confused mercenary. Goodness, the look on his face was the best part of all of it.
“Why are you on my bed?”
“Because I have big news.”
Well, that and he knew the walls were very thin and the rest of the barracks would hear everything if he made a lot of noise. Once he told Ike what needed to be said, he would make sure that Gatrie and Boyd heard precisely what Ranulf wanted them to hear. Ike would have to deal with the repercussions of those sorts of noises coming from his room tomorrow, and Ranulf wasn’t about to head home until he witnessed that play out.
“...Okay?”
“Aren’t you even a little curious what it is?”
“A little, but if you’re not going to tell me, I don’t really care.”
“You’re no fun.”
That wasn’t true. That was part of why Ranulf enjoyed being with Ike. He took everything Ranulf had to say in stride. He certainly loved messing with beorc, but it was Ike’s stoicism that he enjoyed the most.
“I’m being promoted.”
“Oh, good for you.”
“No, actually, it really isn’t. I’m the aide of the future king.”
“Like Giffca?”
“Yeah. Like Giffca if Caineghis were twice as stubborn as you and only half as smart.”
“Oh. That sounds...”
“You can say bad.”
“Bad.”
Ranulf snorted, tail swishing in the air behind him in frustration. He hadn’t even begun his new job and he was already fed up with it.
“Which means I won’t be able to come visit anymore. The public’s eyes will be on me, and you’re supposed to be in hiding. I can’t lead people directly to you. That wouldn’t do.”
“I guess not.”
Was that disappointment Ranulf detected? He hadn’t expected that out of Ike. He wasn’t going to miss Ranulf, was he? Here Ranulf had always assumed it was a one-sided thing they had going that wasn’t a thing.
“Hey, cheer up. This ‘in-hiding’ thing will be over pretty soon. I think.”
“How long is it supposed to last?”
“I dunno. I thought you knew.”
“Why would I know? I’m technically not even supposed to know where you are.”
“...Are you at least going to stay here tonight?”
“For you, Ike? Sure. I’m sure Giffca won’t tan my hide for this.”
“You’re leaving?”
Ranulf hadn’t wanted to confront Ike like this. He didn’t want to track Ike down to the Greil Mercenaries’ base of operations and wait for Ike to be alone before he pounced, but it had been necessary. Ike was due to leave fairly soon, if what Ranulf had heard was to be believed. And that was it. He was just... leaving. Possibly forever. He hadn’t even told Ranulf in person.
“Well... yeah?”
Ike seemed surprised to see Ranulf confronting him, as if he hadn’t expected Ranulf to be upset that he was leaving. He didn’t seem at all surprised that Ranulf had just appeared in his home. Really, he shouldn’t be surprised by such a thing. It was just the pain in Ranulf’s voice that had made him take a step back.
“And you didn’t even think to tell me?”
That was what hurt the most, really. After all that time, after everything Ike had done to make Ranulf fall for him, he was just going to disappear without a goodbye. Ranulf really shouldn’t have trusted so easily. He had been right all along. That was what it always came to, wasn’t it? Nothing ever did work out the way it was supposed to.
“I was going to--”
“When? As you sailed away?”
Ranulf cut Ike off before he could even finish his sentence. There was no room for the mercenary to make up excuses. Ranulf didn’t need to hear meaningless words as Ike looked to escape from the situation.
“--ask you if you wanted to come with me.”
Ike finished his sentence as if Ranulf hadn’t said anything at all. It was certainly effective, if nothing else. Just like that, the tension vanished from the air, and it was Ranulf’s turn to look confused. Had Ike really...?
“...You know I’m not fond of boats, right? And it would be hard for Skrimir to replace me on such short notice.”
“Then don’t. You don’t have to--”
“No, no, I do have to. Someone has to keep you out of trouble.”
A devious smirk passed from Ranulf to Ike, and the mercenary reciprocated with a gentle smile. Just like that, the confrontation had ended, worry was gone from Ranulf’s brow, and he was back to acting like himself. He hated his job, Ike knew that; this offered a clean solution to the problem. If Ranulf requested to leave with Ike, he wouldn’t be turned down.
And besides, everything made sense now. Ike hadn’t told Ranulf because he had imagined the two of them sailing off together. Of course. It was just like the big idiot, wasn’t it? He had just planned to casually bring it up at the last minute and have everything turn out just fine. And Ranulf admired that. He had missed it when Ike had been in hiding; he had missed it when he worked for Skrimir, but here it was, laid bare before him, and it seemed he wouldn’t have to miss it ever again.
“C’mon, Ike. We’ve got a lot of planning to do.”

Ive been arguing with my sister a lot more lately. We're knee deep in a 'social services takeover' and we both have a lot of trauma responses, triggers and just anything i guess when it comes to having to live with abuse for over a decade. Im trying my best to be accomodating with her, not retaliating, accepting her apologies, talking it out afterwards, but its so hard. So so hard. Im the oldest so i feel its my job to do that, but im struggling so much. When we're mid argument, i overthink everything im going to say so its not an insult, a repeat of what our parents say, anything toxic, or even just something id regret later. I dont know where the line is but i know its wrong to feel pure anger towards her and want to just scream in her face and just hurt her. Her words hurt me so much. She says she cares but definitely doesnt show it. I have to listen to every single rant of hers, good or bad, or else im a horrible sister. Yet i have to keep my intrests to myself cos it hurts when she doesnt even show the slightest bit of excitment for me. Just a monotone "yeah cool". I know shes going through a lot and its hard for her emotion wise, i really do, ive been where she is, but i just feel like our relationship is toxic and very onesided. I dont even know if its meant to be like that or not, between siblings. Ive heard that the oldest has to be there no matter what, and im really trying, but i dont want to anymore. I just want her to realise what im going through and at least help me a little. But idk if thats wrong to say/expect of her.
A side note, im halfway to being diagnosed with autism so its making me realise more that im misinterpreting things and taking them literal, etc. But, could i get some advice? Ik i need therapy, its a whole mess in my head lol, but do you know of any half-solutions i can try before i can get the professional help?
Apologies that its so long, btw - 🦕
It sounds really hard to manage a relationship with a sibling when both of you are going through so much trauma at the same time, nonnie, so first and foremost, I hope you’re being as patient with yourself as possible when you mess up with your sister. It’s really good that you’re trying to avoid replicating your abusers’ behaviour and that you’re accomodating her boundaries and putting communication between you first, because those are the bases for a healthy relationship of any kind, but it’s also okay if you mess up. You might be the older sister, but you’re not her parent, and no one should expect you to be emotionally mature enough to never mess up, or to constantly prioritise your sister over your own well-being and boundaries. Especially if your relationship with her right now feels one-sided and she’s not extending the same level of effort that you are.
It’s understandable that she’s more self-centered than you are if she’s younger, but you’re allowed to not be your best self as well, what with everything you’re going through. You’re allowed to be self-centered too, nonnie. If you’re teens, you’re in the age for immaturity and selfishness. And it’s okay to be exhausted and irritable and full of anger when you’re actively going through trauma and abuse. It’s not fair for you to expect yourself to be perfect and never mess up ❤
I honestly don’t think oldest siblings should “be there no matter what” for their younger siblings. Just because your parents happened to have other kids after you, it doesn’t mean you suddenly have a “job” to take care of your younger siblings. Unlike them, you never actively chose to be responsible for another human being. And just because your parents are abusive and aren’t there for you or your sister the way they should be, it doesn’t mean you should automatically be able and willing to substitute them and prioritise your sister over yourself the way a parent would. The fact your parents aren’t there for your sister doesn’t change the fact that you deserve to be taken care of just as much as your sister. You didn’t choose to be there unconditionally for anyone. They chose that the moment they decided to become parents. And they failed both of you. So, no, you’re not a horrible sister for not acting as a parent for her: they’re horrible parents to both of you for putting you in this situation in the first place.
I think it’s a good idea to seek therapy when you can, but in the meantime, I think it could help to try to be as patient and understanding with yourself as you are with your sister. If you’re not feeling up to being there for her, it’s okay to establish boundaries and put yourself first. It’s okay to say “I can’t listen to you right now” and have that respected. It’s okay to express your needs to her, and be open about how she makes you feel. It’s okay to acknowledge that she’s being unfair by expecting you to always listen to her no matter what. It’s okay to get mad at her sometimes. You’re clearly doing your best to not be toxic to her, and that’s really good, but you also don’t have to sacrifice your own well-being and brush aside your boundaries and trauma for her. You’re a victim of childhood abuse alongside your sister, not a replacement parent for her. Your job is to save and protect and prioritise yourself, not her.
And, please, be kind with yourself when you feel rage toward her, nonnie. No emotion is inherently bad or wrong, and it’s very common to feel this kind of anger toward others when you have unresolved trauma from abuse. I answered an ask with advice on how to handle trauma related anger, which you can read here.
I also answered an ask a while ago from an anon who was left to parent their younger sibling as well and felt guilt about doing a bad job. You can find it here if you want to read the experiences of someone who went through something similar to you.
Sending a virtual hug, nonnie ❤

Hi Steph! I have an itty bitty problem.. I'm very bi and I like a girl- specifically, my best friend. Please advise. I told her how I feel and I think she feels the same but neither of us are really out. I dont want her relationship w her parents to be damaged, and idek how to begin w mine. Esp my dad. Ik he loves me and we get on fairly well, but hes disgusted by anything gay, and whenever I try to defend it he always brings religion up and I can't win. Idk if I even want to tell him. What do?
Hi Nonny! *hugs*
Well, because I’m neither a professional nor have ever been in a serious relationship NOR have confessed and have it be reciprocal (which is AWK-warddddd), I’m probably not the best person to ask, but I can give you my thoughts:
I’m not the one who can make that choice for you that can possibly be life changing, sadly. It’s a tough call, especially where religion is involved, because bigots will cherry pick the parts they want without context and use it as an argument, when really they seem to forget that Jesus and God loved all their people. I’m not religious myself (I have strong views against it, and think we would be a much happier society without it), so I can’t say what’s right nor wrong, nor do I want to start a religious debate here, because bleh, I’m too old and frankly don’t care because bigots rarely change their minds and I don’t have the patience for that.
But I digress.
The ultimate decision is up to you and her, Lovely, and it’s always a 50-50 chance that a parent will either accept or disown you. It’s definitely something you both need to have a very serious discussion about, and one you both have to decide if the gains outweigh the cons. I think, if you do decide to tell them, you will need to have a support system pre-determined beforehand in case something bad happens.
I’m assuming you’re in your late teens, so this one is tough for me to give you a good answer for, so I don’t know how useful my personal anecdote will be here. I first confessed my asexuality/panromanticism to my sister and closest friends when I was 34, and a close aunt at 36, and all the times I started with, “I’ve spent a few years trying to figure out who I am. I’ve been feeling lost, and I think I’m asexual, and can honestly see myself with anyone, as long as we’re both happy.” Now, all of these people also have liberal views of the world, so really it was just like “okay” and life moved on.
Again, I’m not the best person for this :(
I don’t know if it would help, but I’ve a post about John’s bisexuality, that if you scroll down a bit contains some very interesting and candid stories from other people growing up bi. It’s a great thread, and maybe it will help you feel a bit better.
I saw a video recently about a man who was very anti-gay (his name is Nathan Mathis, if you want to google before clicking this link), until his daughter came out to him… he didn’t understand it, but he just wanted his daughter happy. Unfortunately, she killed herself because of LGBT hate, and he now goes around to political rallies showing them pictures of his girl. It made me cry. So people can change Lovely, so I wouldn’t totally dismiss your family completely. I just fear about you and her having a stable support system in place before you both tell your families. Just don’t date behind their backs, because that can end terribly for both of you.
As I said, you both need to have a very serious conversation and decide if you two want to date, or wait until after schooling to do so, and figure out if it was just a fleeting thing. Sadly, a lot of people change by the time they’re ready for college, and unless you both are planning on going to the same college, it’s unlikely you will stay in close touch unless you guys are extremely close.
I wish I could help you out a lot more than this. I know whatever you do decide, it will be the right one for you in your heart.
That said, I welcome others who came out young to please offer their advice or stories. Thank you

I was so excited to start at uni&study a program that's exactly what I'm interested in 1 term in, I'm freakin the frick out bc I've failed 3/3 exams so far & have another tmrrw that ik I can't pass. There's so much lit to read&I spent 3days trying to get thru a 6p article (&falling behind on everything else) Everyone I turn to says "u must be studying wrong/too little" (I study 24/7&use all the study techn. but they don't believe me) (Cont'd in 2nd ask bc too long.Sry.I've no one else 2talk2)
(cont’d)I’ve 1medication that works but it has to be on a low dose to avoid side effects. It helps, but not much  Q:At what point do I give up? I started out excited, happy & proud of myself. Now I cry on a daily basis & my dermatillomania is back. I’ve hinted @ my parents abt quitting but I feel like I’d disappt them after all their help getting me thru highschool. They haven’t asked me once how I FEEL abt uni, only how my studies are going. Scared to quit bc what if there’s nothing else for me??
Your experience is incredibly similar to my own, so I want you to know you’re not alone in this at all. I started off so excited for college, wanting to be a professor, and majoring in Classics. Ancient Greek and Latin were really tough for me, even while studying as best as I could. It felt impossible to learn them while balancing all of my other courses. But I have that all or nothing mentality and to this day being a Classics professor is still my dream job. I wasn’t being given any helpful accommodations by my college (really I just got a notetaker and extended time and they dropped the notetakers now due to budget cuts which isn’t even legal but you can see what I’m dealing with). And the first couple meds I tried were bad with side effects and never really helped so I understand that frustration as well. Plus all the time and money the trial and error process takes. People just don’t understand. [Maybe you will find a certain medication and dosage that work well for you if you haven’t tried anything else I would recommend talking to a psychiatrist about what your on and what the side effects are because they can give a good recommendation from that info. But it still can take time to get right and you can hardly put your life on hold in the meantime.] I was repeatedly told to change majors and I held out. And I wish this had a happy ending where I proved everyone wrong but it doesn’t.
I took fewer credits, I held out on officially declaring my major as long as possible, I worked as hard as I could spending countless sleepless nights just trying to focus on my work. In the end I wound up hitting a wall - I just couldn’t finish a Classics major the way things stood. I had all the credits for a Classical Studies degree but my small college didn’t offer that. A lot of the courses counted for both Classics and Philosophy because they share a department so courses about Plato, for instance, were flexible. I declared a Philosophy major. From all the time I spent resisting I required an extra semester. I, hopefully, will graduate in December but it’s hard to feel accomplished knowing I didn’t achieve what I had my heart set on.
I wish I had good advice. But I hated being told that I couldn’t be a Classics major because I still believe I could have done it in the right circumstances and the psychologist that diagnosed me even wrote as much in his evaluation. The thing is you need to weigh what you could do in the right situation with what you should do in your current position. Never give up on your dream. That said what other options are there for you to reach your biggest goals? I’m now hoping a philosophy degree, some work experience, and some networking might help me to enter a humanities graduate program in time. Not the road I was shooting for but there’s nothing wrong with the scenic route.
I’m so sorry that your parents aren’t thinking about how you feel in this situation. When I open up about how I’m feeling all I keep being told is how “I better graduate” and it sucks to think my own parents doubt me. And I actually do have some advice here: what really matters is what you want. Work for the future you want to build for yourself. You have to live your life, not your parents. They might have some insight but only you can determine what direction you actually want to take.

Do you have advice for college students?
I think so, kind of. I’ve never been a full time college student, or lived on campus, but I can share what I know in taking a couple classes & managing them with other things & hope it can help a little bit haha.
1- I know everyone says it, but the syllabus is quite important, try not to lose it
2- it’s okay to ask the teacher for help. Don’t fail a class bc you were nervous to ask about an assignment, theyre usually very helpful.
3- if possible for any class, high school or college, if you’re given the time, start the assignment during the last bit of class if you guys are given the extra time. For me it always helped my brain go back to the thought process I had when I started it. And of course, take notes, or record the lecture itself if that’s a possibility.
4- pick your break times. So you don’t get carried away in them & end up procrastinating. Like say youve decided you’re getting up at 8am, and you’re gonna study/work on a paper or project. Set your break time, and the length as well, so it gives you something to look forward to along with a specific time to pick it back up. I’ve noticed this helps with any type of schoolwork for me, personally. It can also help with not burning out.
5- some colleges have free assignment help on campus at certain times. Learn when they’re there, and what subject they help out in the best & utilize that. I once had them help me with writing my papers & they helped me figure out how to make the word count. Granted, that was like 6 years ago, but still bro. If your school has free tutors who show up a couple times a week, dont be afraid to go for it.
I’ve only taken a couple courses here & there, but that’s what I’ve noticed helped me, personally. However for college witch tips I have a couple. (I’m sorry ik you didn’t say witchy tips, but I do run a witchcraft blog so I figured I might as well):
1- make a portable altar, like an Altoids can altar. There’s a ton of inspiration on Pinterest or Tumblr & they’re amazing for on the go
2- wax warmers if you can’t burn anything in your dorm. Also, you can use them to seal the tops of smaller bottles & you could even use whichever kind of scent corresponds with the intent of the bottle, too.
3- competition book grimoire. Roommates will just think it’s another schoolwork book, if you’re not open about practicing.
4- the herb rosemary helps improve memory & is relatively cheap
5- maybe learn to read a deck of normal playing cards, cause they’re only like $1. Or get some smooth rocks & paint runes on them. Boom, cheap af divination tools.
I’m on mobile so I apologize that I can’t give you links to anything, but I know there’s masterposts for it, along with bottle spells and herbs for memory, anxiety, stress, and others. Im super sorry, I’m really not the most experienced in this topic, but I hope it could be of some help. Best of luck!
EDIT: I forgot about this & I can't link it I apologize, but I've seen some recipes for sprays going around for cleansing spaces (make sure to change any liquids out before they mold or anything) & honestly I think those would be great for cleansing your college dorm if you can't burn anything

Diamonds Are A Boy’s Best Friend Chapter 28
Nothing.  That’s what I had.  Nothing.  No calls, no letters, nothing.  Instead of growing calm from the silence, from the lack of bad news, the lack of news ratchet up my stress and with it my inability to hold down food, or drink.  Even the tea didn’t seem to help.
Selma was worried.  Enough to call Ellen, the midwife, and ask for help.  After the third day of nothing, I’d taken to my bed, no longer willing to be tempted to shop.  Books didn’t hold my attention.  Music, it all sounded the same, and Selma stopped trying to find a song that might pull me free from the fear that was cocooning me.
“Up,” Ellen demanded, as I squinted at her from my tangled and greasy hair.  “Up, get up.”  I glared at her, seeing her hands on her hips and her condescending tone aggravated my already frayed nerves.
“Go away,” I rolled over and she smacked my behind through the covers.  Turning my head I stared at her in disbelief.  “Did you just-”  Indignant at her inappropriate attack on my person was met with an eye roll.
“Spank you like your parents should have?”  She nodded.  “Yes, ‘princess’, now get up.”
I growled as I slowly rolled to my feet.  I knew I looked like hell.  I knew I probably smelled like hell too.  “Better?”  Snippy, that was how I came across, but honestly, who the hell did she think she was?
“No,” she inspected me and shook her head in disappointment.  “I told you rest, not wallow.  I told you to stay pleasant and calm, not this.”  She gestured at all of me.  “Bath first, then a chat.”
I stood in front of her, my chin jutted out in defiance.  “No.”  I wasn’t going to allow this woman to-
She slapped me, hard on my cheek and I felt my mouth drop open.  “Do I have your attention now?”  Disbelief ran through me at the audacity of this person, she hit me.  “ Good.  Bathe, then come down to have a chat.”  She waited, standing in front of me as though she wanted nothing more than to have another reason to assault me again, but as the sting of my cheek burned, I chose not to argue.  For now.
Once I’d soaked away the fear, the worry, the upset of having had no news from Pop-Pop, once my hair was gleaming and wet down my back, once my face and skin were free of the sweat that comes from oversleeping and yes, wallowing, I felt more like the Elizabeth Diamond that had first arrived in Miami in late December.  And with those fresh eyes, and the feeling of being the young woman who remained unruffled in the face of her father’s taunts, who didn’t show her hand to the woman married to her lover, the woman who when forced to make a choice, called in her fiercest soldier I let the absolute rage at the midwife assuming she had any right whatsoever of laying a finger on me.
“Out,” I demanded, when I was dressed and had made my way into the living room.  She was sitting without a shred of concern with Selma enjoying a cup of coffee and glanced up at me as though she were inspecting me.  “Did you not hear me?  I said, get out.”
“Liz,” Selma was trying to calm me down, I knew the tone well.  “Ellen was only trying to-”
“I was simply lighting a fire under your ass, ‘princess’.”  She still looked completely at ease and it made my ire at her presumptuous attack grow.  “It worked.” She nodded at my clean and dressed person.  “Now sit, you look ridiculous.”
I was tempted, the anger running ice cold through my veins, to walk to this smug horrible woman and grab her by her hair and toss her bodily from my house.  To show her precisely who she was dealing with and the force of pleasure I felt at the thought of inflicting even that tiny amount of pain on her shook me.  I gulped past the flush of guilt, that I was entertaining the same kind of thoughts that my dear father might, and sat.
“That’s better,” Ellen offered, as I shut my eyes to try to control the urge that still rang inside of me, calling on me to attack, to see the fear on her face, the fear of who I was and what I could cause.  “Calm and pleasant, Miss Diamond.”  She was taking a sip from her cup when I felt calm enough to open my eyes.  “There, that wasn’t so difficult, was it?”
“I still want you to leave,” I managed, feeling angry from her striking me.  “So go.”
Still looking at me without a care in the world, almost daring me to attack it seemed, she simply sat her cup down and settled back in her chair to get more comfortable.  “No.”  Her hands fell into a natural clasp in her lap.  “Selma called me when you refused to leave your bed.  She said talking to you hadn’t worked.  That asking nicely wasn’t getting your emotional state in hand, so I came and look-” One hand gestured to me, sitting as primly and properly as I always would.  “Here you are, back to normal.”  Ellen was studying me, waiting to see if I was as in control as I seemed, like she was testing me.
“Since I’m back to rights, then isn’t it time for you to go?”  I asked, staring at her as though my entire body didn’t want to lash out and take every single bit of my irritation out on her smug face.  Irritation that came, not only from her heavy handed attack on me, but from lack of news.  Not knowing what was happening in Miami, with Ike, was slowly ruining my sanity.
“Not quite, yet.”  She took a deep breath, still studying me.  “You’re letting your emotions control you, Miss Diamond, this isn’t good for your condition, or for you.”  I swallowed hard.  “If you’re upset, if you let the stress overcome you, then you can’t eat.  You can’t hold anything down, not even the tiny bit that you were taking before.  I said to watch your weight, Miss Diamond, not to lose it.”
I was breathing through my nose, thinking that if I opened my mouth, I might have to rush to the downstairs washroom.  I could feel it, bubbling up, somehow the shock from the slap had forced it away when I first got out of bed, but now, now it was at the forefront.
“Don’t hold it in, Miss Diamond, take care of it, and then have your tea.”  She finally stood up as I did, and I gave her no mind as I was forced back to my usual morning spot, cradling the porcelain as my tiny reminder of Ike reminded me who was really boss.
Luckily for me, and for Ellen the midwife, Pop-Pop called not long after she chose to leave.  After I stopped being angry with Selma for calling her in, and allowed her to convince me to leave the house, to go to the bookstore.  I gave in, my mind easing as I wandered the stacks, touching and considering each title that caught my eye.  I bought a few, and mentally added to the list of ones I’d want the next time.  A few more days went by, as I read and drank my tea, working hard to force the worry down so I could eat and keep what I ate.
I had just left the washroom after losing the battle with my nerves, rinsing the almost sour taste from my mouth that was becoming an absent minded event when Selma handed me the phone.  My retching had been so loud that I hadn’t even heard it ring.
“Hello?”  I shook my head as she pantomimed getting me tea.  “Pop-Pop?”
“Lizzie, I think you can come back now.”  I started to ask why, even as the fluttering in my stomach was beginning at the thought of seeing Ike again.  “To Chicago, at least.”  Oh.  “Selma’s gonna make arrangements, sweetheart, and then I’ll see you in a few days.”
“Chicago?”  I knew it wasn’t the question I should be asking.  I should be asking what’s changed that made the United States safe for me.
He chuckled, and I felt a slight easing of my worry.  “Yes, sweetheart, Chicago.  Miami still has-” He sighed.  “It’s not the right time, Lizzie.”
I offered my own huff of breath.  “When do we leave?”
Car trips, while experiencing the type of nausea that I’d been attacked by, are not enjoyable.  I slept the majority of it, I vomited the rest it seemed.  Pulling off the road, repeatedly, certainly cut into the travel time, but eventually we found ourselves in Chicago again.  I’d expected to go back to Minnie’s, so I was a bit taken aback to find myself in an entirely different neighborhood.
“Where are we?”  Selma had given me a light shake to wake me and I groggily looked at my surroundings.
She gave a soft chuckle.  “Sy’s.”  My grandfather’s house.  It, like the other homes I’d been in since leaving Miami, looked shockingly normal.  Larger, perhaps, and I thought I could see the sight of a greenhouse in the back, but it didn’t scream-  What, I wondered, had I expected?  A sign on the door that read “Mobster”?
“Come on, Liz, let’s get you settled in.”  She had a key, which I also had questions about, but she was asking the man who came to see who’d arrived to bring in my things.  Telling him how to differentiate between our luggage, she was helping me up the stairs, promising me that a hot bath would make me feel more like myself.
Showing me a gorgeous room, possibly larger than the room I’d lived in at Ben’s house, and the accompanying bath, she promised that she’d see me soon.  And then, Selma was gone.  I waited as they brought up my things, assuring the men that I’d be fine to unpack on my own, and after locking my door I took Selma’s advice.  A long, hot bath sounded like the best remedy I could hope for.
The quiet knock came after I’d set my hair and had a fresh nightgown on, along with my dressing robe.  Pop-Pop’s voice called to me, and I smiled.  When I opened the door his smile was the first thing I noticed, and then the steaming cup of aromatic tea caught my eye.
“Thought you might need this, my Lizzie.”  He offered me the cup, and then kissed my temple.  “You look good,” I walked into the room and he followed me.  “Just missed Benny.”  I shot him a look.  “Yeah, I’m glad too.”  He shook his head and took a seat in the chair by my bed.  “Rest, I hear it’s required.”
I propped the pillows against the headboard and sat back, cup of tea back in my hands.  I sipped and felt the warmth fill me.  “What did Father want?”  He was watching me, taking in my every movement like he was making a memory book of me.
“He asked permission-” he stopped, reminding himself I guessed of my current position and how my father’s ideas weren’t conducive for keeping me calm.  “It doesn’t matter, Lizzie, he’s gone.”  My eyes were watching him, and I knew he could see that I wanted to argue.  “Ben is on thin ice, sweetheart.  He knows it, or he’s HEARING it more now.  And what he’s done where you’re concerned, well, he should realize, there’s only so much I’m willing to give.”  He took my hand and smiled.  “Ellen told me you aren’t supposed to be upset.  So no more of that.”  I wanted to slap that woman silly, even this far away she was still trying to control me.
“Yes, Ellen has many ideas about my condition.”  I set my teacup down on the bedside table.  “Why am I here?”  Why now?  Wasn’t Klein still interested in using me to get to Ike or my father?
He smiled.  “Don’t you want to be with Pop-Pop, Lizzie?”  Not an answer, but my smile matched his.  “I want you near me, sweetheart, I want to be sure of your safety.”  That didn’t make sense to me.  “And-” his hand patted mine as he stood up.  “I want you to learn your role in the family.  Since you’re my only grandchild, my Doris’ only child, there are things you have to know.”  I was taking another sip and nearly choked when he offered the scariest thought ever.  “It’s time you learned about your inheritance, you gotta learn what it means to be a Berman, Lizzie.”  Kissing my forehead, he told me to rest.  “Have to keep my great-grandchild healthy, sweetheart, and you.”
My role, it turned out, would be to act as the lady of my grandfather’s house.  My room, I learned, had been my mother’s.  I was introduced to his people, I was given the full reign over how things would be taken care of at a domestic level.  Keeping a staff on task, making menus, the things that I’d been taught at my schools.
The first real challenge came when Pop-Pop told me that I’d have to prepare for Passover, which meant, I’d be taking charge during my very first Seder.  When he was reminded that my upbringing meant that my Hebrew and my knowledge of the rituals of our people was remiss, he simply put me in the hands of his rabbi.  And that’s how I began another round of education.
I was in knots as the day approached, spending more time in the bathroom and with the toilet than I had since arriving back in Chicago.  The nerves, the fear that I would ruin something so sacred and important, the worry that I would fail and embarrass my grandfather nearly overwhelmed me.
It took meeting my new midwife, Ellen’s sister, to calm me down.  Mildred, who preferred to be called Mimi, smiled at me and asked questions before making demands.  She wanted to know if I recalled my last cycle.  When did it end?  And she wanted to talk about the teas that seemed to help the constant roiling of my stomach.  She listened, she smiled, and she didn’t once try to slap me.
“You’re not very like your sister,” her smile was rueful at my compliment.
“Ellen can be harsh,” not as harsh as her hand had felt when he cracked my cheek, I thought.  “She tends to go overboard with her suggestions.’
“She struck me.”  I stared up at her as she shook her head.  “I wanted to-”
“Thank you for not acting on what I’m sure were more than reasonable feelings, Miss Diamond.”  She sighed.  “Ellen is-”  Stopping she tried for a smile.  “Let’s not discuss her anymore, shall we?”
The rest of the visit was pleasant.  She advised changing the teas, rotating them so I wouldn’t get bored with any one flavor.  Salty foods, she offered, were more likely to stay down than spicy or more flavorful.  And then, before she left, she took the time to do a little math and said that I might be looking at an Autumn arrival.  She left, assuring me that she’d be back to discuss anything I might want to discuss, and I went back to planning for my first family event.  And the first family event I was leading.
As I was in the midst of working out the final plans, the Seder would take place in a day’s time,  the mail was handed to me.  I’d taken over the sorting, Pop-Pop’s correspondences, bills, and toss.  I didn’t expect to receive anything, no one knew where I was, or whom I was with.  Seeing my name on the envelope made my stomach clench, as did the return stamp showing it came from Miami.
I set it to the side, my hands shaking, and sorted.  Then I handed the letters that would go to Pop-Pop immediately, things that required payment were taken to his office, and the trash hit the bin beside me.  Alone, I took a sip from my ever present tea, and then took up the envelope from Miami.
I opened it carefully, afraid of what I might find inside.  A slip of stationery, the Miramar Playa’s header stared back at me and I had to close my eyes, fearful of what might be waiting as I unfolded it.
Liz-
I asked Sid to send this for me, he’s insistent that he doesn’t know where you are, but he does know who could get this to you.
I need to know you’re alright, that you’re safe, sweetheart.  I’m making plans to call your dad’s boss, to discuss a business proposition.  If it pans out, then-  You shouldn’t care about that, I just-
Call me, Liz?  Please.  I need to hear-  I’ll settle for the sound of you breathing.  Something, Liz, anything.  I’m planning on going away over Passover, but I’ll be back--  Call me?  I know I have no right to ask anything from you, but I’m in knots, Liz.
He didn’t sign it.  He didn’t have to.  Even without the mark of his hotel, I would have known.  I hadn’t felt the tears sliding down my cheeks when I read the words his hand had written to me, a hand that I missed feeling on my skin, but I felt them as I stared out the window.  I would call him, even if it was all I could have, hearing his voice was something I wanted more than I could imagine.

Will alloy wheels effect my insurance and in what ways?
I'm 18 and just bought my first car, (Vauxhall Corsa). It came with wheel trims, and ideally I want alloy wheels: but if it's going to put a lot on my insurance then it might not be worth it. They would be after-market alloys, and the same size as the current wheels. I'm currently paying 2,000 for my car insurance: how much would somebody estimate the new wheels increasing my insurance. Can you change health insurance before surgery?
I have an Anthem individual health plan. It's kind of expensive but I haven't been working and really wanted to have health insurance. I just started a full-time job that offers health insurance benefits. They offer Anthem insurance similar to what I already have just at a much cheaper cost to me but I'll probably have to get a new policy number. I'm having breast reduction the 2nd week of August and I've already received approval from my insurance company for them to pay. However I want to get insurance with my job but I only have 30 days from the start of employment to enroll in their plan. I'll be calling Anthem next week to see how this will affect my surgery but what do you all think? Is it possible to change policies before a surgery that's already been approved? I don't want to miss the open enrollment with my company but I also don't want to risk having to cancel my surgery. Thanks!

My daughter just got into an accident and totaled my car. This is in Michigan and she is not listed on the insurance. She spends most of the week at her fiance's house (who drives her to work, school, so forth) and comes home for the weekends and rarely uses our cars (once or twice every month or more). Now my insurance is saying they can not cover her because she does not live at home, even though she never really moved out and her permanent address is at home, even when she went away to college. She is under absolutely everything for us, but they are trying to tell her to work with her fiance's car insurance for medical coverage. I never saw a reason to put her on our car insurance because she doesn't use the cars and I don't think it's fair to put it under her fiance's insurance because he had absolutely nothing to do with it. Any suggestions on how to go about this situation would be really appreciated!""

New Brunswick Motorcycle Insurance is based on...?
I will be moving to NB this summer (from BC), and was wondering how the insurance rates out there are determined. Here in BC there are a number of insurance brackets (based on displacement) which determine the base rate. All bikes in any one bracket pay the same, so a 600cc sportbike is cheaper than a 883 Sportster (these are only for liability, theft and collision are based more on $$ value). In general, is it the same in NB? Would I save money by going to a smaller bike (I currently ride a 1127cc Suzuki GSX1100G), assuming the actual $$ value of the bike was about the same? Does the type of bike matter? I'd ask an insurance agent, but they are usually pretty reticent to explain how their rates are determined. Hope you can help.""

BMW Z4 windshield insurance question... help please!?
Hi, I have a 2004 BMW Z4, and the rain sensor, for automatic wipers, has broken. Apparently, you need to replace the whole windshield to fix this (if you know different, let me know!), so my question is... is it possible for me to claim for this under my insurance? My windshield excess is 70, but I assume that is for when the windshield is cracked or damaged etc. So, seeing as mine is not damaged, only the sensor, is there any way I can claim? Also, if anyone knows how much a new windshield for a Z4 is, that would be great too.. I can't find any figures but I assume it's pricey :-( Any help or advice on this would be greatly appreciated (I'm in the UK, by the way).. Cheers!""

Does the Affordable Health Care law really prevent insurance companies from denying pre-existing conditions?
They say that now, insurance companies can no longer deny insurance to people with pre -existing conditions. So what was HIPAA passed in 1996 for? This law states that insurance companies CAN NOT deny people with pre -existing conditions. The only change I see is it gets rid of the 12 month exclusion period. I had two aunts with lupus, both lived in California and had insurance, until they moved to Texas. If they could have kept their insurance, they would have, but for some odd reason liberals are against insurance across state lines. They had no problem finding insurance, they just had to be out of pocket for 12 months. HIPAA also states that if you can go six months without any medical visits, advice/procedures, insurance companies are not allowed to look further than that and must not apply the exclusion period. So did the Affordable Care Act really stop insurance companies from denying coverage for pre existing conditions, or was it ALREADY a law? http://www.dol.gov/ebsa/faqs/faq_consumer_hipaa.html""

Enterprise Rent a Car Insurance?
I reserved a rental car in California with Enterprise. The price was $9.99/day because of a weekend deal . When I checked in at the counter the agent told me that I needed to either provide proof of FULL COVERAGE insurance or purchase their insurance (which would raise my daily rate from $9.99 to $40)!! If I didn't do either then they wouldn't let me rent a car. I thought that was ridiculous and decided not to rent a car. I've never been required to show proof of any type if insurance whether it be liability or full coverage when renting a car. Was there some recent law that I missed or were they scamming me?

Price for motorcycle insurance?
So my parents just bought my brother a brand new car and just told me that I wont be getting it til 3-4 years from now . and I'll be 20 something by then! I'm 16 turning 17 this year by the way. and it sucks even more because my other brother had received his car when he was 18, which is totally unfair because I have achieved more things than him, academic and community wise. So anyways, I've been wanting a motorcycle since I was a little girl and since I will be working this summer and winter, I was hoping on buying a used motorcycle, specifically any Kawasaki Ninja, at the beginning of 2010. Insurance price please? I know it ranges from age, experience, accidents, and etc. I'm a 16 year old female that will be getting her regular permit in June and after 6 months, I will be getting my motorcycle license. Won't be driving a car anytime soon, obviously. Oh and I'm in the bay area of California if that changes anything? Thanks for the help, just need to know how much to save. Oh and if your wondering why I wont just buy a car, because I only wanna save 5 grand max and that will only get me a wack car.""

Insurance question for 17 yr old driver (sports cars)?
At the end of the summer I am allowed to buy my own car. At that time I will have been driving for about a year and a half under my parent's insurance. I have 2 options as far a buying a car: putting about a $5000 down payment on a car and my parents paying off the rest before I graduate college, or buying a car for $5000. The cars I would buy for $5000 would either be a mitsubishi 3000gt or a nissan 300zx. I like both of these cars, but they're not very professional and since I hopefully will have whatever car I buy through college, I want something that doesn't scream hey i'm fresh out of high school and stuck with a sports car! As far as putting a $5000 down payment at a local dealership, my limit is about $16,000 at the most. For 16,000 I was looking at a used (obviously) BMW M3, Mazda Rx8, and Audi A4, or (if I get extremely lucky and stumble upon a) Infiniti G35. These cars look a little more mature than the ones I would buy for $5000.""

Can a health insurance company decline your request to cancel?
Here's the situation: I've had health insurance for the past few years through Nationwide, which is/was provided by my employer. The cost is taken out of my check every week. I received a letter from my employer last December stating that I did not have to change anything in regards to the Affordable Health Care Act. Two months later, I received a letter from my insurance company saying that I have inadequate coverage and need to visit healthcare.gov to find different coverage. I found new coverage through Blue Cross Blue Shield through healthcare.gov (I was planning on going BCBS anyway). I asked the woman who I spoke with when I should cancel my previous insurance benefits. She replied Wait a couple of weeks until you get all of your new information from BCBS . Here's where the issue comes in. When I contacted Nationwide (my previous insurance company) to cancel they said I had to fill out and send back a form. Basically, the form asked why I was cancelling. Go figure there was no option for them not having the correct benefits. Anyway, I sent that back and proof of my new policy (they wanted the effective date) Nationwide DENIED my request to cancel stating that I only had 30 days from the time my new coverage began to inform them. Even though their coverage doesn't meet the AHCA requirements, I cannot cancel until my company's open enrollment (December) Can they legally decline my cancellation request?""

Security Guarding Company insurance?
Can somebody tell me how much the average insurance would be for a security guarding company?
What are the chances of me 'winning' this car insurance claim ?
Yesterday i was leaving work , driving along a road , when a young girl ( 17/18 ) drove straight out of the car park on the left and hit my nsf wheel so hard it pushed my car 5ft across the road. She said she didn't even look to see if a car was coming. She has large scuff marks on the corner of her bumper, my car has a dented wing , wrecked wheel (which is no longer pointing straight ) . This girl is on her parents insurance. Her boyfriend was on his motorbike and said to me , he didn't believe she just did that , he saw it all. My insurance company says it seems straight forward - she was totally at fault, My car is not drive able. Husband ( mechanic ) seems to think i may need a new steering rack, wishbone maybe strutt , wing , alloy wheels ....they may write my car off as its value for insurance is 1200. Has anyone else experienced a similar accident or got any advice ?""

""Can i get my medical insurance to pay for surgery to correct a covered surgery, if coverage lapsed meantime?""
In 2008 I had insurance in California, through my employer. I got laid off in June, but was on COBRA in Sept. 2008, when Blue Cross authorized me for gastric bypass surgery. In Oct 2009, owing to a dispute over COBRA payments, my insurance lapsed. As of Nov 1 I have no coverage, and new insurance through my wife's Kaiser won't start until Jan 1. Yesterday (Dec 23 09) I had to go to the ER due to abdominal pain that turned out to be a complication of the 2008 gastric bypass. Last night I had a CT scan and emergency surgery to correct the problem. Blue Cross rejected the claim, which of course makes sense and pushing it through was just a formality anyway. But today I wondered if, since the procedure was covered originally, would surgery to correct a complication be covered by law even if my insurance lapsed? I know I'm grasping at straws here, but it seems like it might be worth a consultation with an attorney to find out. I think this surgery is going to run to $40K or more. It was a simple laproscopic procedure, but y'know nothing's cheap. The original bypass was billed to Blue Cross at $38K. I know it's not like defect liability, since a surgeon can't guarantee there will not be complications. Also, I know I can't expect free legal advice here. But if someone knows for sure or has thoughts one way or the other would be helpful.""

Auto insurance wrong information!!?
Relatively, I am a new resident in the USA, I have been here for 18 months only, and I am trying to get a car insurance. The problem is the insurance companies give a huge discount for those who got licensed in the USA or Canada at age 16, but they do not consider other countries. For this reason I have to pay a ridiculous amount of money to get the state minimum requirements for auto insurance. In fact I have been licensed in my country since 1998.. I wonder what's the influence if I choose to answer yes when the insurance company agent asks me whether I got licensed at age 16 or not in the USA or Canada? Because technically I am already licensed at that age but not here!!""

Car insurance situation.....?
one of our cars', 93 Toyota Tercel just got totalled out in a fender bender that was caused by another driver. since we only have collision insurance with AmFam on it, the other woman's company made the pay out to us (~$2K) and let us keep the car. we decided to fix the car up mechanically, and give it a bit of a face lift on the mangled front side fender, but didnt really put too much money into it. so the question is.... as we continue to drive the car, and G*d Forbid, anything similar should happen again, when we are not at fault and there's no bodily damage, just car damage, would we be able to get the other insurance company to pay for the car repairs? or will they say, well, you already had it totalled out once, we're not gotta give you $ to fix a car that not worth much... or how does this work? anyone have any experience with this? anyone here an insurance adjuster? thanks in advance""
